SanDisk Launches 32GB SSD Hard Drives.

MILPITAS, CA, JANUARY 4, 2007 – SanDisk® Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today introduced a 32-gigabyte (GB)*, 1.8-inch solid state drive (SSD) as a drop-in replacement for the standard mechanical hard disk drive.
    SanDisk SSD UATA 5000 1.8"
    Avg. Access Time: 2ms
    Avg. Read MB/s: 62MB/sec
    Avg. Write MB/s: 35MB/sec
    SanDisk SSD SATA 5000 2.5"
    Avg. Access Time: 2ms
    Avg. Read MB/s: 63MB/sec
    Avg. Write MB/s: 38MB/sec

    -Silent
    -2 Million hours MTBF

Still slower than a WD Raptor, but it's pretty good for a notebook HDD.

Nice, but still a bit slow on the read/write. It'll be great for small files though.

STR might be slower than a raptor but take a look at that 2 ms access time. Even SCSI can't touch that, and obviously neither can a raptor.

I wonder if it has some sort of internal algorithm to rotate around the cells that get written rather than just writing them with a set addressing order?

If the latter, I wouldn't imagine this lasting long.

AFAIK most modern thumb drives are using the first method you described, so I seriously doubt they would do something that stupid on something like this. I have been surprised before though.

I'd estimate sale price around $149.

It still doesn't change the fact that I skim right by his posts. As far as the drive goes, this will be perfect for MP3 players and PMP's like my Creative Vision W.

Sorry, forgot that, but it's very hard to work out what he's saying, but I admit he does know what he's on about.
