Best place to buy a barebones system?

    - Since this isnt a Hot Deal or really a Traders Corner post - its going here.

Im looking to buy a barebones system. Ive assembled systems in the past, but alot of the time I can get the same parts I want assembled for about $50 more. And since it comes with a warranty, thats worth it to me.

I am looking to get an C2D E6300 with an SLI board.

So who do you guys recommend that can provide:
    1. The cheapest barebones system.
    2. A barebones system with the parts I want (or at least a decent variety).

Ive been to other places in the past, and didnt have the best of luck many times, and the number of scam companies out there has skyrocketed.

    Advice appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mal

Well Usually I will check Pricewatch to see if there are any really good deals going on by any reputable companies.

And if I dont see what I am looking for I usually contact Monarch computer and they usually work with me.

And yeah...Yeah is right. Pricewatch is a pretty good start....

Pricewatch is a good place to start but can be a little worrisome when you buy from someone you’ve never purchased from with before. For work applications I’ve purchased low end systems off various venders advertising on Pricewatch and haven’t gotten stung yet, not sure I would do it for my own PC.

Monarch has been going through some very bad times and may be going out of business I would keep clear of them for now.

One other thought is to look for a local PC show/sale. There are several in the LA Area so there is usually one going on every weekend. The ones around here have local vendors with decent prices for systems and most will assemble them with parts of you choice. You also have the advantage of face to face so less problems in getting what you want/need.

I would go with Newegg, they seem to have a decent selection.

If you did want to assemble a system yourself, check out Neweggs combo section, at the bottom of the left col. on the home page. You can save a lot if any of the combos meet your requirements. Just last month, they had a FX cpu and a 250gb sata2 drive for $200. New parts also carry a warantee, and if you shop, you can find some good deals on the case of your choice. Sometmes, Geeks has free shipping. I saved almost $40 on the last case I wanted. www.computergeeks.com www.directron.com also has some good deals.
