Re: Iran: It's getting serious (merged)

Apparently our military doesn't teach its people to provide only 'name, rank and serial number' when captured anymore. They've "moved on" from that they say. Idiots.

I know it's easy to say from back here, but I think the kidnapped servicemen should STFU and offer nothing but hostility.

Ive read alot about this. And yeah I appreciate what you say.
Whats nore alarming is the EU to more or less blow this off.
Same with the UN [these guys/gal were doing UN mandated work]

I see/read Iranians were throwing rocks and bricks this morning...one of those spur of the moment expressions of complaint.

    But wait? Whats this?

Nice to have the "rock truck" handy.

    [humor break]

As luck would have it George Patton Jr is here with some inspiration that may extend to the Iranian problem.

This is just getting embarrasing now. I'm pissed off that the Iranians have kidnapped these Marines and sailors, and what almost pisses me off almost as much is the fact that we seem entirely impotent when it comes to doing anything about it. Maybe I'm looking through Rose-tineted spectacles here, but 20 years ago, I just can't see us putting up with this sort of sh*t, or the Iranians thinking they'd get away with it. I'm also damn sure that we wouldn't have be asking the UN and our "friends" in the EU to help either.

I rather like that idea of a naval blockade, though I'm not sure how effective the Iranian's shore-based defences and airforce are, and also how it would affect Iran's treatment of the hostages. Whatever happens though, the Rules of Engagement that these troops were operating under needs changed.

^^^ Don't know if its true or not (highly doubt it is)... but the rumor seems to have been started by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

I can sure appreciate what alot of our British members here are experiencing...and the outrage.
Im willing to cut "some" slack to the captured soldiers however, not knowing "exactly" how they were instructed to react while doing UN sanctioned work.
But beyond that? Pitiful that the EU and UN are just so wishy washy on the subject. And Blair. Sheesh. Acting like a castration victim.

Funny now seeing this morning Blair saying "the next 48 hours are critical" to the release of the sailors. If my math is right, after 48 hours it will be April 6th.

    Coincidence?

Not exactly Nate, the rumour was spread yesterday morning before 9am GMT. 48 hours later it will be April the 4th.

Um..why would we use the start of the rumor for the baseline. The first report of Blair saying the next 48 hours were critical I saw just this morning..sof rom this morning the 6th is about 48 hours away..
