    external 3.5" drive enclosure recommendations

What brands/ price range for a quality enclosure? I have cheap ($10) 2.5" enclosure, quality is so bad screws/IDE interface dont even close correctly and bad connection. Do I have to spend $20 or even $50 to get decent quality/reliable one? Looking at newegg, many comments on enclosures describe poor quality/ reliability issues.

I've had real good luck with Metal Gear Box: http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bi...l%20gear%20box
They have IDE to USB models, SATA to USB & SATA to SATA models too.
Just saw that they have a chromed & a flamed edition out now at Coolerguys.

I just ordered THIS ONE, I'll have it on Tues. I looked at a bunch of them, and apart from the user reviews I noted the wide range of supported drive sizes (GB).

i just picked up a pair of these last week from newegg. i ordered 12.45 am wednesday and recieved them 3.45 pm thursday. i have not had a chance to pair them up with these yet, but i should get a chance in the next few days. they seem to be on sale right now, (as are the drives with free shipping) if that makes a difference to you. i will try to post some thoughts when i get everything together.

I have the Adaptec one (the one Best Buy sells).

I think it looks pretty nice, plus I have a drive icon with that design. It holds up to 1 TB.

I received THIS case and fired it up. This is a very nice little case. It's all metal, no plastic anywhere. Seems to transfer heat very well. Laying flat, I loaded it up with 70GB of files which took 30 min or so, it never got more than just warm to touch. (WD 80GB JB drive)
It appears to have a chipset called "Initio", connected via firewire.

There's also SATA models of the same case. HERE

Only difference is that SATA internal interface means no firewire, only ESATA and USB2.

There's some pretty good deals around on 250GB external drives, you might want to shop before buying a case and drive.

Ditto SATA. Safecom makes a 2xfirewire/1xusb2 3.5" enclosure for SATA drives.
