    *Resolved* Error installing Ubuntu "io-APIC"

    Solution:
    On the boot screen:
    F6(for other options) + 'noapic'

    /* Original Post
I installed Ubuntu on my Abit NF7-S + Barton Mobile with zero issues and it works great.

I went to install it on my Abit K9N-Ultra with AMD X2 3800 and I get and error very very soon after I say 'install'

It is the "io-apic" error kernel could not be loaded. I have Cool and Quiet Off... can you guys think of anything else I should look at/try ?

    Thanks

Thats a fairly new board correct? The chipset might not be supported in the kernal.

Theres a boot option you might want to try, on the live CD main screen go to boot options and look for one that says something like APIC = No

Normally you just pass noapic at boot:

    Code:
    linux noapic
Or you can add it as a kernel parameter in GRUB, something like this:

    Code:
    title Fedora Core (2.6.7-1.494.2.2)
    	root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.7-1.494.2.2 ro root=LABEL=/ noapic rhgb quiet
    	initrd /initrd-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.img

    yea, Ned explained it better

I know on the ubuntu live CD's there is a F key you hit to choose boot options (F9 I think) and you can choose it there. I would think if you boot the live CD with noapic and install it, then it would automatically be added to the grub boot line, but if not you can select the line and edit it at grub the first time your system boots, and change the grub file after you get in to have it always be there.

Glad to hear that got it working for you.

Like I said, knowing ubuntu I would expect that if you use noapic option to boot the live CD that it would be that way after it is installed. However if it isnt, theres an option in grub to edit the bootline (C I think?) and you can put noapic at the end of it.

    Later add it to menu.lst

Stormy, that is confirmed. I used 'noapic' to boot the live c.d. and there has been no APIC problems since installation. Thanks again
