Ubuntu edgy, used to use debian etch until I got annoyed that every update seemed to break my system. Things like no sound, no x server, kernel panics, etc. Probably all because I strayed quite a bit from the original OS. I don't have the need to modify ubuntu to that extent, it all works out of the box. Except beryl, that was quite painful to set up on my desktop yet mind-numbingly simple on my lappy.

Kubuntu/Xubuntu daily. I play with Fedora Core 6 but it doesn't seem too stable in my main machine... but that's because I like to poke and prod into its inner workings...

On my desktop I multi-boot SuSE 10.2 KDE, SuSE 10.2 GNOME, Fedora Core 6, Arch .8, and XP. On my Macbook Pro I run OSX with XP, Vista, and SUSE 10.2 in their own VMs (under Parallels). On my older thinkpad (600e) I run xubuntu. SuSE is my favorite OS, mainly because I grew up (in Linux) with it.

    Gentoo, thanks to Joeyg's help

I tried the various Ubuntu flavors and for whatever reason I kept running into a wall with a Kernel Panic message so I just gave up.

Side note though Im running Live CD flavors as Im part time using Linux for Folding at Homes SMP when possible. Gentoo was the only one I could get to work and I never bothered trying Fedora because Gentoo does the trick.

I like Gnome anyways and that Kubuntu everyone kept yelling about is KDE and I dont like it.

This is because back in the day when I worked at the college and had to use Linux daily we used Gnome on a Redhat and Suse Distro, but thats been quite a while.

Gentoo on desktop and server. While portage is turbulent (and broken ATM), it does offer almost all the software I use in a convienient form.

In the past, i had tried debian (install issues, other issues), (k)ubuntu (install issues, permission issues*, other issues), Fedora Core (severe install issues), and a few others. Solaris was on the list, but never materialized due to lack of LBA48 support for my drives.

as for KDE v Gnome, i can't stand the save/load dialogs in gtk2 so I use KDE. I actually like XFCE/fluxbox. Once I realized that KDE could look like either, I decided to go with KDE.
I know exactly how the PC works. I understand the OOO, superscalar and superpiplined designs. I just don't understand how the PC doesn't work as shown in so many cases.
