Re: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer $49 AMIR

I have speakers with a headphone & mic jack so I don't need that feature but it's nice to know it's there.

Probably not the right place but I'd beware of that sound card, Its not a true x-fi. Check it out but if you get any funny stuff return it quick.

Comp USA has a sale for a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty for $99.00 after rebate.

Appreciate you looking out for us but I believe the card on sale in this thread (the XtremeGamer) is in fact a true X-Fi. I mentioned the 'fake' X-Fi back on page 1.

If you look at newegg's listing you'll see:

    X-Fi XtremeGamer 70SB073A00000
    - This is the card that this thread is about. On sale for $50 ($90 - $20 instant discount - $20 rebate)

    X-Fi Xtreme Audio 70SB079000000
    - This is the card I believe is NOT a true X-Fi based on user reviews and drivers (see below).

If you go to creative.com to download drivers and select X-Fi XtremeGamer, Fatal1ty, Platinum or XtremeMusic you will get the same driver:

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic, Platinum, Fatal1ty and Elite Pro Driver with OpenAL support 2.09.0007 (43.53 MB) - Oct 30, 2006
    Filename: SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_09_0007.exe
    This info found here.

But the X-Fi Xtreme Audio driver is different:

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio software pack 1.04.0064 (27.99 MB) - Dec 20, 2006
    Filename: XFAX_WBUP1_LB_1_04_0064.exe
    This info found here.

Based on all this information I feel good about the card in this thread being the correct card - a true X-Fi that is.

You did your homework Lenny that is for sure.

Please make sure you all post to how this card works.

The Fatality version sounds amazing but its not perfect. Crackes in the walker, Arty and during load. I crashed three times last night when I use to never crash. Fresh windows load.

My mouse seemed weird with it being very hard to hit stuff last night.

There are many things written on this in creative forums. You should start a thread in gaming and keep track of peoples settings and if they experience any issues. I really hope the cards work out for you.

I'm still playing with mine but I'm not thrilled to death with a $100.00 purchase.

Re: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer $49 AMIR

Oh yeah I've heard of the issues with the X-Fi and even with prior Creative cards. I actually had an Audigy which had the cracking/popping problem. That's one of the reasons I'm still running a SBLive 5.1 - because it works! I know at least a few people in Gaming are running problem free so there is hope I guess. I haven't installed mine yet so I can't comment just yet.

I believe the Fatality version has that XRAM which lesser cards don't have although I'm not really sure of its benefit.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase for $50 after rebate. The sound in BF2142 is better for sure.

It's been a while but I think I installed the drivers from CD and then it updated over the internet to the same version I found when I went looking on their web site. I just tried to update and there is no newer version so the SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_09_0007.exe I linked back in post #18 is still the latest.
