    NVIDIA Vista Driver Plans Unveiled

    http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=357

NVIDIA has been getting a lot of flack for their incomplete Vista driver support but the VP of Software Engineering was willing to sit down and chat with me about the problems they are facing as well as their plans for future driver releases.

Leave any comments or questions in here!

Thumbs down Re: NVIDIA Vista Driver Plans Unveiled

NVidia's marketing hype led us all to believe that their products were ready for Vista and they weren't. Moving product under questionable business practices at the least has soured NVidia's current and future products in this users eyes.

Again another company believing that the users will take what they are given with little or no consequences to be bourne by the company.

I won't stand for it and I hope other users won't either!! Time to switch to ATI, and instead of buying that 680i Nvidia motherboard, I purchased an Intel 975 mobo.

Just doing my part to bring integrity back to the computing public.

Re: NVIDIA Vista Driver Plans Unveiled

Personally I've fired up a couple games so far under Vista64 (BF2, COH, & Farcry) with 100.59's and so far they all seem to be playing fine at highest settable resolution with max detail levels, to my surprise.

Actually I was expecting these games to no longer be playable at max after seeing the performance drops with other games but so far it seems they are playing fine.

The biggest annoyance I have experienced so far is the display not waking up from standby.

Re: NVIDIA Vista Driver Plans Unveiled

What really irks me is that they don't even have decent driver support for the 8 series cards in XP, and the cards have been out since Nov. 8! Also, they have a very troubled 680i chipset that some say is killing their RAM, among many other problems. Just check out the forums at ASUS, EVGA, Corsair, etc. Heck, people can't even get their PS2 mice and keyboards to work on these boards (and it isn't like PS2 is bleeding edge technology ). And these are not isolated cases.

I can't believe that such a big deal is made about Vista drivers when these other problems are practically being ignored. Nvidia has a very large problem on their hands right now that may become very expensive in the end.

I'm not hating on NV, I have always been a supporter. I am concerned however, because I own 3 8800s, a 680i motherboard, a 590 motherboard and 3 7 series cards. I just wish some of the problems other than Vista drivers would be looked into also.

NV's state of drivers for 8800 series under Windows Vista is very poor no doubt. But guess what, so is everybody elses. Asus', Creative's, Hauppauge's and list goes on. Half the utilities/progs I use don't work right. Just found out tonight my fully functional Adaptec Ultra2Wide SCSI controller is no longer supported in Vista at all. I said in another thread, those with single rigs should stick with XP until thnigs are sorted out before switching. I blame the new Windows Vista more than anything else here...

Cool Re: NVIDIA Vista Driver Plans Unveiled

The real issue is that NVidia knowingly and publicly marketed their product as being Vista ready when in all reality they did not have nor will they have the drivers needed to support their claim of "Vista ready" for months.

They sold their product based on it; I think it's time for a Class Action Lawsuit.

Technically it could be argued that the product is "Vista-Ready", it's just the drivers that aren't. I'm sure lawyers could make a lot of money with such theories...

Oh, I'm sure they will, especially with the premise being so wide. To the average person Vista ready means "take it out of the box, put it into the computer, load the drivers and it works".

Based on that premise, NVidia loses!!

Did you guys see this page where NVIDIA is asking for feedback on their drivers now?

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/vistaqualityassurance.html

Thoughts on this? Does it help?

Personally, I believe they are just trying to deflect users outrage at their marketing practices, in other words, damage control.

The only way to reach NVidia is with a Class Action Lawsuit, that they'll understand.

*in his best Simon Cowell voice* I'm not trying to be rude, but you need a hobby or possibly some therapy. *Simon voice off*

Unless this is the first major M$ change you have been through...you should have seen this coming. Sure Nvidia could have done a better job with the drivers, but sheesh. Early adopters should accept the fact that there will be growing pains. It's kind of like buying the first year of any new car model. Be prepared for recalls and problems.

A class action lawsuit to address gaming performance? Dual boot XP for a few months.... or just don't upgrade RIGHT NOW. There certainly is not a gaming reason to upgrade right now.

Does it suck that games arent running as well as they could? Sure.

Will suing NVIDIA get you drivers any sooner? I doubt it.

I doubt there is a legal basis for a CA lawsuit. The only people who profit from frivilous CA lawsuits are lawyers.

Put your Simon Cowell voice away, I'm sure I've been around alot longer than you have and there becomes a time when principle is the issue. People who keep quiet allow companies to hype products that don't exsist or many claims for products the company can't deliver on.

The CA lawsuit has merit based on almost fraudulant claims, but that word won't be used.

It's about time consumers just didn't take the BS handed out by marketers and manufacturers, maybe then, but I seriously doubt it, will consumers be treated fairly.

I'm only one person, but put together a couple of thousand people who feel the same way (and they are out there, check [H]ARDocp) if you want to find more).

So, all I can do as a protest is join the Class Action and not buy another NVidia product until such time as they see the light, which maybe never.

I am not defending Nvidia or trying to take their side (nor am I trying to say that I am older or wiser...most people already know I am much older than I am wise...and I am fairly young).

I am just saying that a CA Lawsuit will only make the lawyers money. By the time any real litigation can be filed, testimony, etc.... this issue will probably be gone or nearly gone to the point that nobody will care. Drivers will fix the issue.

From everything I have read and experienced, the real problem lies with gaming performance in Vista. The card works great in XP *shrug* People were not sold a defective product. People are experiencing compatibility issues with a new product. This is not something new in the PC market and especially in the M$ world.

We honestly went through all the same crap at the XP roll out. I promise, this too shall pass.

I mean no disrespect to you (I really meant the opening line of my last post as a joke) PowerHungry.
