Cannot Access Internet On Windows Server 2003

Hi, I am having problems accessing internet on my Windows Server 2003.

I installed a fresh copy of Windows Server 2003 Standard. After that I installed all the drivers, I bought a DLink DFE-580TX 4 port network card and installed it and installed all the updated drivers for it. I am getting an IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server from my router but I can't access the internet, I can't go into any websites even Windows Update. However, I can access other computers connected to the network. I am really confused on what I should do. I tried disabling all the network adaptors and only leaving the one that is built in to my motherboard enabled (Intel Pro 100) but still no luck. Could someone please help me.

    Thank You

Are you using internet explorer for your browsing? If so, what does it say when you go to say "google.com" ?

Also, can you ping Google.com by:
    1. start
    2. run
    3. 'cmd'
    4. 'ping www.google.com'

Since you are not really supposed to browse with Server 2003, it comes disabling pretty much all sites by default. I'm surprised that Windows update doens't work though.

If it is trying to hit the site, but the browser is blocking it, just add it to the 'safe' zone. Then you should be able to go to it.

Ned, the fact that he can view other boxes on the network, as well as has the proper gateway and stuff leads me to believe his NIC/config is doing ok.

I think he is using internet explorer to 'surf' and he needs to add the 'zone' he wants to go to the 'safe' list.

Yes, re-reading his post, I think you're probably right

Can you ping IP addresses on the Internet? Instead of "www.google.com", try "72.14.203.147". Without the quotes, of course.

Is there a warning box that pops up when you try browsing websites?

Maybe try manually adding your ISP's DNS entries to your TCPIP config and see if that gets you connected. You should be able to pull the DNS ip addresses from your router config/status or one of the other computers that are connecting to the net with "ipconfig/all".

Thanks for that highoctane, I got it to work by finding out the DNS addresses from the router and manually putting it in to the Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server.
