pls advise for better fan placement.

Hi all,

I've got an antec plus 1080amg case which generates too much noise. So I've just order
a thermaltake sonic tower(athlon xp dual-core 3800+ 939),
3 vantec stealth 80 fans and
a heatsink for northbridge
to replace the old one and hopefully will make a difference. So now I'm not so sure where to place these fans to make the air flows better. Please advise.

I'm thinking, 2 exhaust at the back, 1 intake from the front and ignore the side fan. OR should I make use of the side to help out the sonic tower.

use all the fan spaces u can.usually positive case pressure,derived from more in than out tis good.
air enters from front,bottom,side,exausts towards top and rear.
once uve done everything take a pic and pop it in here.will be able to give u a few more hints.bracketing a couple of(silent if u wish) fans will further cool things down.
u could do a smoke test,and see how air travels in thy case,dont remember if yours has a clear side or not.

Unfortunately, this case doesn't have a clear side. So smoke test wouldn't be an option i guess.

If possible, I'm trying to reduce as much fans as possible, because this baby stay beside my bed with me, so as quiet as possible would be good.

i understand. the stealth fans you will not hear. whats the hs for the chipset?
if its a passive one then 0db.if its an active one,at top rpm you will hear it....
the..well..weird thing with people silencing their puters,i find,that they discover their previously quiet psu becomes the most generous screamer ...itll never end,unles you go for a whisper or fanless psu,wich is more expensive and doesnt pack the juice it should.
whatever you do,i dont think teh back end of the machine will be towards you.if you have the side,then the side fan port will let some of the decibels get to you easier.

the hs for chipset is Zalman ZM-NB47J. and if my PSU fans scream too loud, then I will just replace it with 2 more stealth fans.

Thanx for the suggestion. look like this will be my plan.

2 ex back fan, 1 in side fan to help the sonic tower and 1 in front fan to help my harddrive.

actually put 2 in the front and one in the back.u already have the psu exausting.u need more air in then out
happy modding.watch out for the psu,drain it well and let it sit a little bit.use anti shock gloves.that shit can actually kill u

heya, don't ya scare me. I thought as soon as you unplug the psu, there should be no more power. unlike UPS which could actually store power.

btw, thanks for the advice. I will take your suggestion and place 2 at the front instead.

The psu is full of capacitors that hold a mean jolt.
Un plug your psu, turn the computer on to drain them. And be careful anyway.

the best thing would be to either shut it down,remove pwoer cable,press power button a few times so it drains or switch by the little button in the back,then remove power cable,then press pwoer butto na couple of tiems just in case.
