Question USB audio card for laptop

    Hey there,

    Long time now see.
I was looking at getting a recommendation for an external audio card for
my laptop. I have a wireless card in my PCMIA slot so that is not an option.
The only thing I have seen worth wild are these:

    Turtle Beach

Are you gaming or listening to music? The E-MU 0404USB is very good, has an awesome headphone amp, a great DAC...very good piece of hardware. I believe they run about $150 to $200. M-Audio also makes very good USB soundcards...such as the Audiophile USB. The 0404USB should have excellent sound, as it uses the CS4398 DAC, which is used on the X-Fi Elite Pro, E-MU 1212M, and the Protools hardware interface. It boils down to what you want to spend .

    Hey there,

Thanks for the reply. Well, I was looking at something around $70=<$X.
That's why I mentioned the 2 above. I was just looking at music and DVD
viewing. I am also looking at getting a set of Sennheiser HD212 headphones to
go along with it. I really do not have time to get into games. I maybe play them
    once or twice a year.

Why not just get a USB headset?
I have these and can highly recommend them.

The HD212s are nice, but in the same price range are the Sony MDR-V6. I own them and theyre an excellent headphone. I can listen to them for hours on end, as theyre very sturdy and comfortable. They have deep bass and very clear highs, and a great midrange too. Being studio monitors, the MDR-V6 is a very revealing headphone, but some find the highs a tad harsh.

    Hey there,

Well, I went ahead and bought the Turtle Beach usb Advantage Roadie.
I also got the Sennheiser HD212s at buy.com for $34.99 w/ a free digital watch.
Go fig, I know there are better things out there, but I just wanted something
sounding better than what I had for a good price.
Also, I did not want just a headset but, I also wanted something that provided better quality sound
for an economical price. Better audio device + better headset = better sound all together.

Here's the link to that special:

    Thanks again for the inputs.

The 212's are a decent cheap headphone. That exact model is my toss around headphones.
