Which CD-R media brand to get?

I got a gift certificate at newegg, and my HD is running out of space and I have no cd-rs so I may as well use the gift certificate to get some.
Heres the two im looking at:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817132530

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817130953

Obviously the Verbatims seem like the better choice due to mail in rebate and free shipping, but they only get 4 eggs rating and some reviewers state that they got a lot of coasters with the verbatims.

The Imations on the other hand get perfect 5 eggs.
I have been recording cds for years and have used many brands, and I dont remember using Verbatim which is why I ask about thier quality.Imation on the other hand I have used and I think they are still in great condition

If I am buying a "Brand" I will usually buy Imation's.

I usually go to www.supermediastore.com and purchase Ritek media for both DVD's and CD's.

I buy whatever is the cheapest. I'm sure some people here will have they're brands that they like. But I have never had a problem with any cd-rs that I have bought. Currently I am using Dynex... they were $5 at Best Buy for a 50pk. So I say go with the iamation or whaever it was.

Thing is I have had problems, last batch of CD-Rs I got and burned mostly audio cds with them, well some of them had songs that would skip sometimes. These were a totally generic no name brand kind.

I doubt they are any cheaper and less quality then the ones I am using. I got mine at sams club for like 3 bucks for a pack of 50.

If your having a lot burning problems I would think it would more likely be caused by your burning program or possibly your drive.

Nothing but Fuji - made in Japan for me. TY media is the best...except for dual-layer DVDs, then it's Verbatim only.

Re: Which CD-R media brand to get?

I have used Verbatim CD-R and lost a lot of good data with it, I mean a large count of Verbatims! I tried other brands and found others are OK. I am sticking with imation for all my CD/DVD medias (have had no trouble with it, including reading it on other PCs).

EDIT: Sorry, it was the Memorex that made a lot coasters. I threw it all away and stick with imation. I don't do lot of burning, so I am selective (availably, price, etc). I mainly use CD-R for backups and burning ISO images. I am very happy with imation.

For regular backup, use either. I'd chose verbatim over Imation.

My best results (no bad burns) were with Imation, Sony and Verbatim. I would stay away from HP and Memorex.

Have you tried burning slower? I know my old head unit would only play discs that were burned slower than 16x for example.

A man after my own heart. MIJ is the way to go. Though, lately they are getting a little harder to find in retail stores.

another MIJ fan. And yes they are getting quite hard to come across.
bought my last batch from meritline, and others say rima is a better spot, never dealt with them yet, but it is coming.

You can buy TY direct thru some online stores. They are more expensive than those from Taiwan, but Taiwan is just as good. DON"T get any that are made in China, Indonesia, or India.
