Fred Thompson to run for Pres ![out as of 1/22]

I didn't see it, but some on other forums are saying that the former
Senator may form a group to make a run for the Presidency. I
understand it was mentioned on Fox, but didn't see anything.

If this were to happen it would REALLY shake up things. He's
pretty popular and being on tv's Law & Order doesn't hurt
either as far as recognition. I'd like to see Dr.Paul win, but
    if Sen Thompson runs....

I like the guy ("Your average ruskie doesn't take a dump without a plan..."), but don't know much about his personal policies. He does seem a presidential figure.

At least it would get him off the show.
Promote then, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge. In proportion as the structure of a government gives force to public opinion, it is essential that public opinion should be enlightened.

Hes not too bad on the show. Alot better than the weasel who tries to sell us investment advice in the dumb ads.

Actually a pretty smart guy. I had forgotten he was in on the Watergate Prosecution [on some committee]

And one real plus: He doesnt fumble his words. He actually sounds like he lives on this planet.[ ]

    I like him.

He is one of the few conservatives I can tolerate. Always well spoken and he has one of the greatest lines in movie history:

    From Days of Thunder:

You guys look like a monkey a football out there.

By the time someone's elected as our next pretzeldent, we're gonna be so friggin' tired of their voice, image, campaign, etc., that we just might wanna eliminate the job entirely.

Lets eliminate it. They never do anything any of us can agree on anyway.

"I'M GIVING SOME THOUGHT TO IT. GOING TO LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN." Fred Thompson certainly looked like a presidential candidate to me, just now on Fox News Sunday.

THOMPSON: I want to see how my colleagues who are on the campaign trail do now, what they say, what they emphasize, what they're addressing, and how successful they are in doing that, and whether or not they can carry the ball in next November, and mainly whether or not they can reach the American people, inspire the American people to do the tough things that we're going to need to do. ...
CHRIS WALLACE: And if you search your soul and if you listen to what they're all saying and it doesn't seem to you that they're catching on, making sense — whatever — then what?
THOMPSON: Well, I'm going to give it serious consideration.
Translation: Yes! UPDATE: Here's the video. If it seems hard to play, try fiddling with the buttons. (More Althousian tech advice.)

I remember from years ago, he gave a Republican response to a Clinton State of the Union address, IIRC. He was a quite effective and compelling speaker who articulated the conservative viewpoint very well.

Do you really think all of your republicans are Democrats?

That is the most rediculous statement I have ever heard.

As a Democrat, I do not agree with one Republican candidate, representative, or senator anymore.

Maybe Lugar and that is it.

    Laughable....

    ^^

IMHO, real conservatives would balance the budget and they would not start new programs like "no child left behind" and prescription drug coverage. Real conservatives would also secure our borders. The current crop of Republicans has done more social spending than anyone since LBJ.

Keep the blame where blame is due buddy. Conservatives came up with it and passed it into law (no child left behind).

Dem's had nothing to do with it. I love it how Conservatives try to spin NCLB as a liberal idea. Hogwash
