I'd be very wary of using registry cleaners, especially if they goad you into buying a full version to do the job. Personally I'd recommend forgetting about Regcure and also FreeRAM. Windows XP is fairly good with memory management and other memory managers just interfere with that - and they use more RAM to do it. Kind of a contradiction in terms.

Maybe you can cut down on some of the AOL programs but it'd be worth finding out exactly what they do first. The HP software doesn't consume much memory either. You're going to see your biggest improvements by turning off the realtime (on the fly) defragmenting option for IOBit Defrag and probably also from gettting rid of FreeRAM. The defragger is constantly hitting your hard drive if you haven't already turned off the realtime defrag option.

Be very, very wary of turning off services. There are very few that actually give back resources and more often than not, whatever causes the services to run or use memory can be shut down without shutting down the service. Three classic examples of this are Indexing Service, Task Scheduler and Themes.

If you are going to mess around with Services, do it tentatively and refer to as many other guides as you can. I have also written a Services Guide (listed in my sig). I don't profess that it's perfect, but I did use at least ten other guides and my own research to come up with what has been listed.

son honestly id advise u just buy some more ram, its cheap these days, cause u already dont kno wat ur doing in disabling all those stuff, plus there isnt any noticeable performance gains when u do that, the only thing that can improve performance on ur pc is be adjusting ur virtual memory, even to that u still would gain anything much but thats the best u can do, disabling those other stuff these guys talking about really makes no sense. jus buy some more ram or if that insnt possible increase ur virtual memory size on ur hard disk

I'd agree that buying more RAM is the best solution, but if he can't afford it, then with only 256MB RAM, minimising the RAM usage will have a positive effect on the system. Increasing the paging file size is a useful suggestion, but as you already seem to be aware, RAM is much faster than a hard drive.

The above link has a downloadable list which is pretty informative about your startups and whether they are needed or not.
    Asus M8Z77-V Deluxe
    Intel 3770K
    G-Skill 1600 16G
    Corsair H100
    EVGA 670 GTX
    2 Corsair Force 3 120G (Raid 0)
