MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — A 94-year-old man was found fatally beaten early Monday in a thicket of bushes, his left hand cut off, and three people were arrested in what might have been a botched robbery, authorities said.

Difficult to find anything to say except: how do you start it up?

Oh and mummy (see the second-last paragraph) gets to clean it out afterwards.

Those who have abandoned their pets to starve at home
they've lost to this sub prime mess. Turn them into the pound
if anything,DON'T tie them up in a closet so it's harder for people
who care to hear their cries..That's just BullScat !!!
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080125...financeanimals
CHICAGO (AFP) - Forget about the lost
furnishings and finances, the most pitiful victims of
the subprime mortgage crisis rocking the United States
    are the family pets.

Shelters across the country have seen sharp upticks in
the number of people giving up their pets in recent
months because they have been forced out of their
    homes.

And -- more tragically -- neighbors, police and foreclosure
agents are finding increasing numbers of pets left to fend
    for themselves in abandoned homes.

"We're finding too many animals who have starved to
death," said Stephanie Shain, director of outreach for
the Human Society of the United States.

While some people dump their pets on the street,
others go so far as to lock the animal in a closet where
their cries for help are harder to hear, she said.

It can take weeks for an animal to starve to death and
desperate scratch and bite marks are usually found on
    doors and windows.

"They will eat anything -- furniture, or carpet or wallboard
to try to ingest something," Shain said in a telephone
    interview.

"It's a very fearful and frantic and panicked situation for
    that animal to be in."

In one of the more shocking stories, more than 60
cats were found abandoned in a foreclosed home
in Cincinnati last May, shortly after the foreclosure
    rate began to spike nationally.
This is just terrible any way you look at it..

Riems, 49, is charged with raping a
paralyzed patient at the home where he was a
    night-side nurse
, and police say he claimed
to have attacked scores of others — so many
that he couldn't recall them all.

Riems told police he had abused almost 100
patients since 1985, at up to 10 nursing homes,
but could remember specific information on only
about two dozen patients, Perkins Township
Police Chief Tim McClung said after Riems
pleaded not guilty last week to charges of
    rape and gross sexual imposition.

Mother of teenage yob jailed for brutally beating pensioner blames authorities for 'failing her son'

The mother of a teenage yob jailed for the brutal beating of an elderly man has written a letter to her local paper blaming the authorities for her son's behaviour.

The woman's 17-year-old son, who cannot be named for legal reasons, Was sentenced to five years in prison and deemed a danger to the public by a Manchester judge last month.

The teenager, who had 18 previous convictions, defied an Asbo to attack 75-year-old Kenneth Hamer as he walked his dog through a park in Sale, Greater Manchester last May.

The teenager and his friends knocked Mr Hamer - who used a stick to walk - to the floor and punched, kicked and smashed his head against the ground.

The group had been drinking in a children's play area in the park when they attacked Mr Hamer, during which they threatened to kick his dog to death.
I'm getting a little tired of these feral vermin. Seems to be every week there's a new one.

But if we ban guns, violent crime will decrease!

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,326128,00.html

A father was stabbed and beaten to death in front of his 7-year-old son by a gang he was trying to protect the child from in almost exactly the same way his own father was killed 23 years ago, according to the Daily Mail.

David Martin, 40, a window cleaner, was trying to protect his son from a band of bullies who were picking on the boy during a football game outside his house in South London.

The youths stabbed Martin with a Samurai sword and beat him to death with golf clubs and cricket bats while the child looked on, the Mail reported.

Martin's own father was also beaten to death 23 years ago by a group of youths with a metal bar who were teasing Martin and turned on his dad when he intervened.

"I can't believe this tragedy has happened twice to the same family," an elderly witness to the crime, who asked not to be identified, told the Mail.

Gun aimed at BBC radio presenter

A BBC Radio 5 Live presenter has had a gun pointed at her while filming a TV documentary in Liverpool.

Shelagh Fogarty was filming for an ITV Tonight with Trevor McDonald special to be aired on Monday.

She had returned to Croxteth, the area she grew up in, to see how safe she felt walking around after dark.

Her crew was threatened by teenagers armed with glass bottles and stones in Norris Green on Friday, before seeing a gunman in Croxteth the following night.

"I could clearly see the viewfinder light on the gun." ??? This is from a "BBC Radio Presenter" who probably never handled a firearm in her life. I spent three years in the U.S. Army and twenty seven plus in Customs & Border Protection and could someone tell me WTF a "viewfinder light on the gun" is? The guy was probably taking her picture with a cell phone. And why didn't her film crew get video of the incident. She's less credible than Dennis Kucinich sighting a UFO.

Pffft. Silly Frank, it's that thingie just to the right of the dial where you select the caliber you'd like to use. More likely she's watched one too many reports on some FPS game or is thinking of those cool video systems some of our armed forces have.
