Sony plugs PS3 into folding@home

1000 ppd at the most..WU's are worth 300 pts, and it does around 3 a day.

given some of the alternatives, especially with the way winders regular folding is right now thats like a godsend to some folks im sure

on my 4th wu in a little over a day wow!! is the gpu alternative faster than the ps3? wish i had one! i have the x1400 in my dell laptop! i'm so mad! thought i had something newer in it. it's only a month old!

x1400? if its based on the x1650xt or so itll fold

20gb PS3s are pretty cheap on ebay (300-350$ i think). So if your looking for a dedicated folder, that seems like a good idea.

wait, so the difference between the top and low one is hdd space, controllers but the basic unit is still there right?

If you can really use a PS3 (dvd's, games, etc.,) then go for it, but for a dedicated Folder, although it measures up favourably with the win client (which is castrated with crapper Wu's at the moment) , the figures I've seen say anywhere from 800 to 1,000 ppd, or a little better than an X1950XTX returns on Gpu Wu's, or slower than any X2 Cpu running the Linux smp client,
I do hope everyone who buys one Folds on it though, and a thumbs up to Sony for supporting such a good cause.

it does bluray, it does video gaming, and it does folding, considering the cost of any other bluray alternative thats actually quite a good deal when you factor in what it actually accomplishes, I hate sony, with a passion but for this one instance I can actually look the other way towards my Sony Hateboyism

Ubuntu plugs PS3 too; seems it is possible to run version 7 (Feisty Fawn) on the PS3, according to this download page (see bottom of download listing)
