BTW Mods - how about a sticky for this thread![]()

You could stick it here ; too much stickies would crowd primary threads from the front page ...
We were asked not to put up too much stickies ..., sorry !

I'll always try anything new, so tried the win smp client for a few days,
as soon as the current Wu finishes I'll be going back to vmware Linux, the win client is around 20% slower and more of a hog than vmware, I can run the vmware client and a Gpu client (at around half it's output compared to having it's own cpu core) which nets around 300 ppd and still see 20 min frame times on a 1760 point Wu, the win client just times out the Gpu client,
hopefully the win client will mature through it's beta run, but for now I'll stay with vmware Linux.![]()

Quite true, but can you see where I switched to SMP?

VMware The easy way by our own Frosty One. Works like a charm.
R.I.P Brad (BWM). You will be missed.

So here are the results from a 2652. I was pulling about 1200 to 1300 ppd between my quad, duo and duo laptop. I have been running 24/7 smp on both desktops with not a single crash or issue. This is from the quads.

The biggest problem I had was that I had to uninstall the previous services of my regular clients even though they were disabled. So now my ppd are averaging 2,700 a day. Today has been a great day so far with 4,100 points. I should finish another 1000 points today as well. This is a great deal for those of us not wanting to use Linux.

Raid 0 x2 WD 320AAKS

Silverstone 1000w Strider psu
Thermochill PA 120.3 with dual pumps
As an example, I have an Opty 170 @ 2.9g running the win smp client (until it finishes the current Wu) at 24 min per frame on a 1760 pointer, the vmware client used to run the same Wu at 20 min per frame,
The same Wu on a dedicated Linux box with an X2 4400 (my only other 1meg cache dual core) @ 2300 Mhz also does 20 min frame times,
That should give a rough idea of win smp vs vmware vs Linux performance,
I've found the 1 meg cache X2 's up to 10% quicker on the big smp Wu's clock for clock, my X2 4200 @ 2.7g only just beats the X2 4400.![]()

Hopefully I will have a dedicated XP 4200 x2 SMP Folder to play with next week.
I did try Linux once ... it worked but I didn't understand it ....maybe this will be a good chance to try VMware .. standard windows installation then follow Frosty guide - right?
Unless there is an idiots guide to pure Linux version ....

Running Win SMP has been a nice bonus. PPD for 4 cpu's has risen from @800ppd to 1200ppd just by switching my one dual core.
I'm a little surprised how relatively quick the Win client is compared to the Linux-Vmware client. When released it seemed a much larger gap. Maybe they fixed some code.
the extra production will keep me in the top 40 when rcoe and ken blow by me. Making progress again moving into the top 2000 all time.
