Hello everyone, at the end of januari I decided it was time for a time computer.
Since I'm a gamer, I wanted a high-end computer which could run the latest games fluently.
The computer I put together and ordered is;
MOBO: Asus M2 Crosshair R.OG. Am2, NF590 SLI, ATX
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 2.0Ghz, 1MB, AM2
MEM: Kingston HyperX DChannel 2GB Kit, Pc2-6400 800 Mhz
PSU: Nexus NX-4090 Real Silent power supply, 400W, ATX2
And from my 'old' PC it inherited;
-160 GB IDE HD (7200 rpm)
-Asus 16X DVD player.
Now when I first got the PC assembled, it runned perfectly.
Fresh new format of the HD, everything shining new. It was a serious 'w00t' moment.
However, now, about 2 months later, it's starting to 'lag'.
Best way to explain what's happening is this;
-When starting a program, it takes 5-10 seconds before it starts.
-When it 'hangs', 0% CPU Usage and no change in memory usage
-Once in the program, the program runs smoothly (for example. firefox).
-Other program still take another 5-10 seconds to start.
* There are NO programs running on background with high CPU or memory usage.
* I've installed all the latest drivers for graphics card, chipset, and such.
* Haven't installed any weird programs or drivers after which my PC began to slow down.
* Asus probe (monitor program) gave warning of high voltage on CPU->NB HT. (was 1.39v instead of 1.2v).
What I've tried so far:
-Changing timing of memory
Since I thought the problem had something to do with the memory, I decided to see if I could change some settings in the BIOS that would help out.
Didn't do anything extreme But it had no effect. Sometimes it did seem like it did, but didn't.
-Spyware, Antivirus scanning and also disabling them.
Nothing malicious found. And disabling AV and such had no effect.
-Checkdisk on HD
-Looking for bios update
Was none avaible according to Asus update program.
First time I ran it, it gave errors. This was a mayor set back and had me worried, Kingston and errors? So I removed the DIMM's, blew any dust of them best I could (amazing how fast they collect dust).
And reinstalled the DIMM's, and ran Memtest again, this time the entire night.
In the morning it had made 8 passes, with a total of 0,0 errors found.
And after which, my computer ran fast again.
This was last week...
The first memtest still has me worried, giving of errors. However since then any test I did with memtest hasn't given any errors what so ever.
Does anybody else have these problems? Or know them from other people?
I'm at the point I just return the hardware and ask that it be checked and repaired and if needed replaced. But that would leave me without a good PC for sometime, so I only want to do that if there's no other option..
If you need more information, please ask for it. I'll be happy to give any information!!
Hoping someone here can help me out!
