I am going to change out my Corsair XMS PC3200 for some Corsair PC4000 which is DDR 500 from what I read IIRC.
What changes do need to make in my bios and settings to get this to work.
TIA

Just raise HTT to 250 and set memory divider to 1:1 so memory will run at 250 as well, remember to lower HTT link to 4X or 800 and also lower CPU multiplier.
Thats how im running my rig right now,and I must say the extra memory bandwith does help
In any case I just looked at your specs and I think you would be better off by spending that money on some WD Raptor hard drives, that would be better then the faster memory

Well I have never OCed, but I wanted to get this rig to or close to 3.0G
Do I need the better memory to do that?
If I am not going to be helped by it, I will sell it and move on, but seeing I know the 3500LL Pro and the 4000 where made for my board, figured it could not hurt.

No,unlike older AMD K7s/Athlon XPs faster memory will not affect your CPU OCing,Athlon 64s have a memory divider(old athlons didnt) so you can run HTT/FSB at a much higher speed then memory for overclocking.
Personaly I have PC 4000 memory myself and all its good for is extra memory bandwith, like for example if I run my HTT/FSB at 300 with the memory divider I can run memory at 250 or 207 I think, and since I have DDR 500 logically 250 would be the better choice but if your still running DDR 400 just use 207.
Like I said it does help but getting Raptor HDs would be the better choice if you ask me

Good info, I thank you.
I think I will run 3dmark again, add it and see what I get or if I have any issues getting it stable just drop my other mem back in.
I would not mind getting a raptor or two soon tho.![]()

Ok,
Got the new 500DDR in this am left all settings at auto,
it posted but at the windows screen started getting odd characters and did not finish. This did not surprise me but was a good test.
rebooted changed my ddr voltage from auto to 2.80,
rebooted posted and windows fine. ran 3dmark it started fine locked up on second test the fairies.
rebooted upped voltage to 2.85, tried 3dmard again it completed the fairies this time and then gave me a must shut this program down msg afterwards.
I was reluctant to bump it up again without talking to you guys.
are there other options I need to change also or just bump the voltage up once more??

Rated voltage to run at 250 mhz is only 2.75.
Something is not right if your crashing
Set timings to rated 3-4-4-8.

well I had everything on auto, that did not work then everything except voltage and tried from 2.8 and went up.
I may try setting the timing manual and starting the voltage at 2.75.
Should I update my bios to the most current or is 1103 ok?
