Interview with Admin The Wise One

Well, it's another Sunday. I've been sick for a week and I'm gettin tired of this crud. I here it's "going round" from many folks I know, but I just wish it were going round somewhere else is all. I can't remember ever missing 2 days of work without being hospitalized and I've had the same job for 27 years.

That being said? We have a real extra special treat today. This is one of the guys you may not know or perhaps you wondered what he did. He's one of 2 Admins here and a real stand up fella. Joe is a guy who is why this forum is here day after day. His tireless efforts at upkeep, updating, reinstalling, etc. have made these forums a well oiled and pleasantly evolving place to hang out. If nothing else, be sure to take a moment to get to know one hard working and dedicated great guy.......Here ya go, number 19 in the series: The Wise One

OK, by now you know the drill:
Hi there. Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Uncle Bob, a Mod here at PC Perspective. We will be running a series of articles within the forum that will be called Mod Interviews. I ask revealing, embarrassing, stupid, probing questions of Mods and hopefully you get to laugh with us at ourselves and in the process get to know some of us better. Beware, not all the Mods are as forthcoming as you may like, I do my best to uncover the truth, but haven't always hit the mark!

    1. I realize many of the mods here are in a witness protection program of some sort, but can you give us your real name?

    -- Joe White

    2. Why did you join PCPer/AMDMB?

-- I was looking for help with my second DIY build (Epox 8K3A+)

    3. Which forums do you mod?

-- I actually don't mod any forums anymore. I used to mod at MSI and Storage though.

    4. Why do you keep coming back?

-- Simple. The community. The people here are great. They made me feel real welcome when I first signed up and took the time to treat me as a person. No other forum on the net provided me with that.

    5. What was your first experience with a computer?

-- An HP "custom" computer (configure your own). Intel P3 600, 256MB ram, 20GB HDD, Geforce 64MB, Windows 98 SE

    6. Do you prefer to be called a "geek" or a "nerd"?

-- Geek is preferred but either will do.

    7. What exactly do you do here at PC Perspective?

-- I do allot of the behind the scenes stuff. Web design and maintenance for the main site and forums, installation and upgrading of forums software, configuring and tweaking the forums, etc. Too much to list really...and probably boring to most as well.

    8. What do you like most about your “job”? I realize it’s actually a rudimentary form of slavery or servitude, but you are still here…can you explain this to our readers?

-- Why am I still here? It all comes back to the community. Refer to number 4 above. What do I like most about the job? I love to code. PHP, MySQL, (x)HTML, CSS, etc. Probably the single thing I do the most with my computers (besides folding of course).

    9. OK, we all know this is coming…What do you like least about your job?

-- Javascript. Hate it. Always have...always will.

    10. How long have you been active in PC Perspective?

-- Registered in April of 02...so...just about 5 years.

    11. Where are most active here? What is it you suppose that draws you to that particular area?

-- I would have to say Folding and Off Topic (and of course our staff forums). Again...the community. Real friendly bunch. It's the cause as well (folding). The idea of using my computers unused cycles to help fight cancer, mad cow, and other debilitating diseases caused by protein folding/mis-folding, is simply amazing.

    12. What interests do you have outside of PC Perspective. Don't be shy, if you don’t have a life outside of here, many readers would like to know!

-- Outside of my family and coding/web design/computers? not much. Fishing is always good. Like to read as well. Thats about it.

    13. OK, it’s hardware time! Let’s start with your most, or current favorite piece of hardware. Tell us about it.-- Don't really have a favorite. My core 2 duo is the latest (and only) Intel chip that runs in this house. Yeah, I'm an AMD man at heart...but I needed a broader perspective.

    14. Software? Hey, if you are a closet Linux user, now’s the time to come out. (If you are a closet Microsoft user, don’t be afraid, we can keep a secret!)

-- I actually run both Linux and Windows (Kubuntu, Fedora, 2K, XP Pro, Vista Ultimate will be soon). My Favorite software though has to be UltraEdit and UltraCompare. They are, without question, the most used apps in what I do.

    15. OK, let’s get real personal. Witness Protection Program be damned…Can you tell us something about yourself you’d like us to know?

-- Not much to tell really. Real laid back kind of guy. Very easy to get along with (unless I'm taken for granted or stabbed in the back).

    16. What can you tell us about your job? Hey, if you do something illegal, now’s a good enough time as any to make a clean start!

-- I'm the General Supervisor at the local Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. I supervise ALL aspects of production and it's employees / beneficiaries.

    17. Where do you live? (Be fearless, your secret is safe with us..)

    -- Akron, Ohio

    18. What can you tell us about your family??

-- I'm married with 2 children. Both boys. 5 and 9. Been married for almost 10 years and have never regretted a second of it.

    19. Here’s a delicate one…How old are you and where did you grow up?

-- 33. Will be 34 in July. Where I grew up is a bit more difficult to answer. I moved around allot as a kid so I actually grew up in Hamden Connecticut, Cleveland Ohio, and Binghamton NY.

    20. Well, we are getting to the end of it, it’ll all be over soon, I promise. What you would like to say to our forum members, go ahead anything. Get it off your chest. We have all day here….

-- Continue to be who you are. PCPer is the best place on the net to be...and it's because of our great staff and great members. There is no other place on the net (in my personal opinion and experience) that is as friendly, helpful, and community driven. Make sure you visit our suggestions forum and let us know how we can continue to improve PC Perspective for you.

Nice interview. Now everyone can understand why working for you and Ryan is a pleasure.

Wise [Joe] is one of those rare sorta guys you work for where you arent scratching your head wondering..."what is he getting at...whats he really thinking?"

    With him its all upfront.

The Wise One's initials may spell out "TWO", but he'll always be number ONE in my heart.
Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little... emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I knew your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?

Wise is the main man - if we want something, a new feature on the site, if it's possible Wise just makes it happen

I hate to think how many hours he puts in behind the scenes so the place runs smoothly for us

    wow!

thanks alot guys. i do really appreciate the kind words. means alot.

i dont post much in the open forums anymore (which i am trying to change)...but i am very active here. i have alot of projects for pcper going right now. alot of them are unfinished (for which i apologize). i am picking them off one by one though...so they will be finished eventually.

i have a ton of stuff going on right between here and "real life". the project i am working on right now is for the folding frogs and is nearing completion. should be pretty cool and useful to the folding community. i will also be beginning a very large project for the main site and forums. ryan and i are very excited about it and cant wait to get started on it. this project will bring alot to the pcper community. if i can talk ryan into it...i will be leaking little details here and there as time goes on so stay tuned.

i love doing what i do here. its my way of giving back to the community that has given me so much over the years. its a pleasure and an honor to work for ryan, the staff, and the members, and i will continue to do so as long as i live...or ryan gets tired of me and fires me...which ever comes first.

thanks to all for making pcper what it is today...the best online community on the net...hands down!

Someday....when we have time and things settle down...well talk about my old thought about having some members become a "mod for a day".
It would be sorta interesting for members to see first hand how things work.
And the intense effort that isnt visible.
And to appreciate how a "clued in" Administrator drives the site.

I would have it under my control with an extremely tight leash or in jail.
