    Stopping a re-format

I'm reformatting an external hdd, but I might not have the time to wait for it to finish. If I just stop it - I don't know, pull out the usb plug, can I just start all over in the morning or will I break the drive? Thanks!!

Actually, I see a "cancel format" choice if I right click, so I assume it's ok.

Shouldn't be any problem starting it over from scratch.

    Re: Stopping a re-format

You may also choose to do a quick formatting. I believe the only difference between quick and normal is that in normal every HD sector gets tested during the process. If you are confident that your HD is healthy you may bypass this.
You may also run a surface test at a later time, there are many softwares that let you do this. Back in DOS and Win95 times I used to run Norton's Disk Doctor, much more reliable than MS's Scandisk (only on FAT partitions though). Recently I found a similar tool is built in HDtune, cannot yet vouch for it though.

Hey, why is the forum refusing to put a capital D on the above post?
I tried to edit it several times, it always reverts back
