Not really. Vista still has lots of drivers issues, and hasn't been really proven to beat XP in performance.

Which Direct X 10 game were you planning on buying/playing?

    Re: DirectX 10

hah. yea that's the kicker. Im just saying that when they do start to hit the sheves more... Because nVideo is releasing that new 9800 around the end of the year and I'm planning on getting that probably next spring, when they do their first price drops on it. By then maybe I'll just get Vista.

    Re: DirectX 10

i'd only get the 9800 if it's dx9 performance is better than 8800

dx9 is going to be around for a while until vista is more widely accepted

most of my current software/hardware won't run with it - i'm not changing everthing to run a couple of games - may as well get an xbox360

    Re: DirectX 10

For which game would you need more Dx9 performance though (than e.g. a8800GTX has to offer)? There are some videos floating about of Crysis under Dx9 and Dx10 and the Dx10 version surely does look noticeably better.

Actually Nvidia's Vista drivers are fine now and the performance isn't bad at all though I'm running 4GB of memory now, but even with 2GB it isn't bad. Supreme Commander seems to be popular but Flight Simulator X will bring your PC to it's knees if your looking for a that sort of thing.

So you are saying that your 4GB box can now match or exceed the performance of your 2 GB xp install? Good thing ram is cheap.

    Re: DirectX 10

Vista is definitely a memory hog; I've got 2 gig and its using around 30% on idle. I haven't had any problems compatibility wise, like Niner said, Nvidia has their drivers right and I haven't even had a problem with my x-fi.

Actually no. Even at 2GB it performs fairly well. Against XP? Not sure and not that worried about it at the moment. Basically all I was saying was Nvidia's drivers are getting better and right now are quite stable and perform very well in Vista.
