    PC beeping. What's the deal?

It is kindof a beep, then a click, that I believe is coming from the case speaker.

It used to do it once every week or so, and never affected anything. Since then I got a new motherboard, ram, processor, and video card. It still did it after that, but less often. Now all of a sudden, it will do it like 10 times in a row every 5 minutes. Very annoying. I can't see any changes when it happens. Voltages, temps, fan speed, all look normal when it beeps and clicks over and over.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried switching out the PSU? Just a thought.. I really don't know.

Perhaps it's a beep code? Usually means the computer is crying for help from a PC Technician.

Aren't beep codes only on post? These beeps are when i'm in Windows, using the PC.

There can be beeps that are not post beeps.

Ok, my first assumption was wrong. It is not coming from the case speaker. I unplugged the case speaker from the motherboard and it still does the beep/click. I have no idea where it is coming from now.

Nope, nothing in the event viewer when it happens. My motherboard is an A8N5X. Not sure if it has a buzzer on it or not.

Looking at pic of mobo, don't see a piezo in it.
Could it be coming from your hard drive ?

Probably the hard drive. Have one that I pulled out of a Mac that does that. Needless to say it failed. I'd backup the files on that drive A.S.A.P.

ONce when I had a bad psu I would get beeps and a voice! That would say: "Unit failed power on self test!" Over and over again. I traced it back to a bad psu.

I had a SOYO motherboard that used to beep the whole time. Other than that it worked fine. I solved it by unplugging the case speaker.

Re: PC beeping. What's the deal?

Well, my new hard drive arrived (I was buying a new one anyway), installed it and loaded it up, and now the rig is as quiet as a mouse. So I guess that was the culprit. It still seems strange that a hard drive made that much noise. But I'm glad it wasn't the PSU because I didn't plan to order a new one of those.
