    Only had it a couple of days, but it's faultless so far and I'd certainly recommend it if it has the features you need

    Either that, or the Asus P5K-Deluxe (or the slightly cheaper P5K-E if cash is tight). All of these have good OCing features and overclock really well.

    I don't have any experience of the nvidia chipset boards (680i 650i etc) so can't comment on those.
    Did you need or flashed the bios Ned

    Re: The Pond Quad Core Thread

    No, not yet. Mine came with F4 bios which fully supports the G0 steppings and has been out since about may. Gigabyte did just release a new F6 bios a couple days ago that fixes some issue but I figured I'd wait a bit before flashing. I don't seem to be affected by any of the issues described

    Touch wood - I'm really liking this board so far.

    The only gripe I have is Windows doesn't support or recognize drives in ACHI mode so I had to install Windows in IDE mode, but that's a Windows issue and will be the same on any board. I don't know what would happen if you switched modes after Windows has been installed??

    Re: The Pond Quad Core Thread

    Bit-tech just did a review on a New Asus P5K3 motherboard, The P5K3 Premium, It has 2GB of DDR3 Ram that will go up to 1500MHz or so built in and Bit-tech even tells how to overclock It too. And the article is only part 1. A QX6850 and some really good cooling would be great(CoolIT Freezone), Maybe when It comes out I'd get It If I have the money then. Of course half the ram is on the back and the motherboard and/or ram has a 3yr warranty. Legion Hardware says It retails for $1,299 of course.

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...p5k3_premium/1

    I'm looking at getting the following setup Which should pay a good return(near 80% reduction in My electric bill):

    * Sunwize 1872W(1.872Kwph),240V IG2000 Grid Tie System($13,940) alternative energy store(CA Rebate of $2,500.00)
    * Labor to install PV system($835?) Straight Lighting or Somebody similar.
    * Champion RWC46 Swamp Cooler[Wall mounted in Kitchen, East wall]($600) & Remove WC35 swamp cooler, Home Depot
    * 7-Dual Pane windows to replace 7 Single Pane windows($2209, Master Bathroom window smooth surface inward)Haver Glass
    * Install Silver Window Film on the Dual Pane Windows($500?)Precision Window Tint
    * 4-window awnings($400)Brents Mobilehome Specialties
    * USRDA appraisal Fee(280)
    * CA Title and use tax(7.75% or $1236 on $15,946.00 purchase price in Las Vegas NV), Penalties for late filing?
    -------------------------------
    $20,000.00 Payment of $92.00 a month

    The Rebate could be used for what I want and I could even build a 7th PC.

    Boinc 5.10.13(XP Pro or XP x64) & either 5.2.7 Stock Seti app or the Chickens 2.4 app(XP Pro or XP x64), Older apps now overclaim and aren't liked too much there. Hopefully they'll fix things there soon.

    Re: The Pond Quad Core Thread

    Yeah It would be insane, The Regular P5K3 Deluxe and some expensive DDR3 ram would cost about $400 or so less, It's been about 17 years or so since anybody soldered ram down onto a motherboard, The price would be understandable If the motherboard had 4GB of ram to most, Hopefully Asus is reading the reaction and will make It a 4GB model for the same price, Oh and I think part of the added cost is the fact that It's a 10 layer motherboard due to the built in ram and of course the motherboard is guaranteed to run the ram by Asus at 1500MHz, Stock is 1333MHz. Would I buy It really? I don't know Vista I've heard likes 4GB, Of course I don't see Myself running that OS at all, So I haven't made up My mind on whether I'd get one If I had the money or not.

    Well that Asus P5K3 Premium would still make one heck of a Cruncher, Albeit a bit on the expensive side, 10 layer motherboard, 2GB Guaranteed 1500MHz capable ram and definitely an XP x64 candidate, It might do for Vista after SP1 is applied. Who knows the price might come down when It comes up for sale.
