    Re: RieselSieve Thread

I just sent an e-mail to the guy that runs the HW Leaderboard. I don't know if it will do any good but here is what it said.

First let me say that I think your choices are very sound. You might want to add another category “Extreme”. You’re probably wondering who would use something better than your “Dream System”. Go to the Boinc forum on this site and ask them what would be the ultimate machine for distributed computing. If you asked me, I would probably say an Intel dual quad with 32gb ram. Distributed computing applications such as BOINC use 100% of the processing power 100% of the time. More is better. You also fail to give any benchmarks for the systems you list. Why not build them, install BOINC, pick a project and join the PC Per. Team? You could then use the results for each computer as a real world benchmark. You’re asking why should I do this? There are currently more than 1 million people world wide that support distributed computing projects. Why not be the first publication that caters to this community? There is a market here for really high end users. Who else is really going to use all of the processing power of a Quad? Be warned though, cooling is a major factor here since processor usage is 100% all the time. On the other hand, you could just send me the parts. I could run them and you could still use the results for benchmarks
It was worth a try. Maybe we should try to get them all to join the team.

Here is the reason. Please note position 1.

I'm setting my machines to keep 4 days of work. Maybe this will help.

There are plenty of the LLR WU's. Just enable test applications in the preferences.

Do they actually give you any points for the LLRs? I have yet to see a single point for any of these.

They do but it sometimes takes a while. Check your pending credit. I'm sitting on about 12000 pending right now. It slow because not enough people are running them.

As some have noticed, the massive sieve effort has sieved more work units than bryan had planned for. As of now, the queue seems to have dried up. Bryan should be back tomorrow to get everything back in line. Until then, feel free to switch "run test applications" to Yes and get some LLR workunits. We have LOTS of the k=141941 workunits in the queue and you can help kill a prime while we wait for bryan to get sieve back in order.
