Problem GRR.. Something is seriously wrong with my computer

I thought it was a good idea to reformat so I did a few months ago. Problem is lately my computer has been suddenly freezing and when it does there is a sustained beeping, and everything is just completely locked up. What do you guys think? My anti virus shiz doesn't pick up anything though I dont have a fire wall atm.

On a related note, how do i turn off the beeping at the start on of my computer? Like when it's starting up it makes a **Beep**, i think after 3 years its time to turn that crap off.

    any ideas?

    kthx

When you start up your computer you should hear at least 1 BEEP, that means the computer has completed POST correctly.
If your computer BEEPS more then once while starting up"booting" you have a problem of some kind.
The computer BIOS has error codes and 2 or more BEEPS indicate which error is being generated.

Do you have WinXP Pro or Media Center? then you have a fire wall. You just need to go into control panel and see if it's turned on.
Go to Start >Control Panel and look for an icon that looks like a globe with a brick wall infront of it. Click on that icon for fire wall settings

Re: GRR.. Something is seriously wrong with my computer

if u want a more detailed view check out everest home edition. i use it along with speedfan primarily for the temp (wich is wich) but also for system info. pcwizard helps as well

Computermanic have you tried a Windows repair? I know it's a PIA but maybe it could clear things up. Have you tried just using one stick of memory, reduce the amount of hardware to the bare minimum and start from there.

I'm telling you, I think it's the hard drive. I had a Mac hard drive that did just that. It would run then out of nowhere, beep, a click, the computer would freeze for a second and resume. Some times multiple beeps. It still runs to this day but lotsa random beeps, clicks and freezes.
