Hi Ned,

Thanks for this post. It worked! AHCI adds 10 more seconds for booting, but the load time appears to feel a tad faster. Maybe it is a placebo effect.

+1 on updating your tip to include "All this process worth nothing if you forget at the end to go to device manager, double klick your hard-drive(s) under "disk drivers", go to "policies" tab and mark "Enable write caching for this disk" (I recommend adding this to the guide)"

Presumably this means using the onboard HDD cache?

Hi!

I am French, so my english level is bad so ...

I have windows 2003 Enterprise 64 Bits with this motherboard:

Intel Server Board 5000 VSA 4 DIMM

I have download that:

Then I dezip, then I copy the file IaStor.sys (64 bits) to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\

Then I
copy the following registry file to your desktop (copy and paste into notepad) and save as ahci.reg

But I am not sure is the correct for my motherboard.

Then I double clic on the file to add in registery

Then I reboot, and in the bios I put AHCI Enable

Then The pc run and I see the logo Windows 2003 during 5 s then blue screen and the system reboot.

Where is the problem?

sry i ran into this articles and want to do this for my self too as im caught in ide mode on xp pro 32bit and want achi. my question is what do you mean by extraction the file with the -a switch. i don't get it. the matrix storage driver that is.........i understand all the rest but extraction with the -a is new too me and i googled and couldn't come up with anything.

You need to type that command at command prompt window. It will extract the archive without installing the drivers.

The files will be extracted in to C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager

o.k.........i get it now......thanks for help......i did it and now it works i have ahci sata in my device manager...............now this may seem weird but i would like to do a test with and with out ncq just for my own personal interest.......i don't seem to find where to disable or enable......my hdtune 2.54 says it's supported but not enable.........i just figured this out now so i will google around more and stuff. thanks.

I read this and took the procedure and applied it to my system.

I have an Asus M3A motherboard with an ATI SB600 chipset. I downloaded the official x64 driver for the AHCI controller, and then wrote this reg based off of the .inf in the driver source:

I first had to identify my device with linux, to the tune of

sudo lspci -vvnn | less

The official driver has dozens of device entries and I wasn't about to do them all. This means anyone else that wants to use this probably has to change the device number to match what they have.

But it worked on the first try. WHOO. Other than the code, the procedure is the same as the original post.

I also have an Asus P5E WS Professional. May I ask: did you choose to enable AHCI mode after installing Windows because you ran into trouble with F6 during installation?

Hey, thank you very much!
The first procedure (page 1 of this thread) has worked also here for Asus Maximus Formula (Intel X38), with Western Digital SATA-II disks!
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 32 bit.

It enabled the AHCI mode, it found the drives as " ich9 sata AHCI Controller ".
Now the hard disks are running in SATA-II mode!
Also the dvd writer is now SATA.

And it seems to be faster, also the defrag!

Thank you very much for posting this, got me out of a big hole. Worked flawlessly on an Optiplex 755 which I needed to re-image.
