I am surprised that EA hasn't shut down the live chat because I knew they would get flooded with countless unnecessary questions.

So THIS is why I don't like this game! TBH, I've not done any reading up on BF3 and how it operates as far as "stats" go. The thing I've always liked about FPS's is what Scoot stated, I can invest as much time as little time as I want in them and still have a good time. This game though, crap. If you haven't played at least 100 hours it seems your chances of being nothing but cannon fodder are 100% depending on the players.
Case in point. A few nights ago I was on some random BF3 server having a fun time and not doing too badly. It was a CTF map (which I find boring but I digress) and I was doing a great job flag baby sitting. Keep in mind when I joined the server there were only 3 other players than me, but we were all having a good time. We went through about 3 games like this on the same map when other players joined in.
Suddenly another team mate accused someone else of cheating. He had exclaimed that "hacks are allowed on this server." I didn't know what he was talking about. Later on, I was trying to do my best keeping my head down low while watching the stupid CTF icon count down towards my team's advantage. There's not even a need to watch for the opposing team as this little icon will suddenly pause when they come into the area. More BF3 "realism".Suddenly I start taking fire. I look around but there's no one. My team mate gets killed and I can see that he didn't fire off a single shot before getting killed. Then I see it. Some sort of remote controlled robot looking thing with guns on it is shooting at me from above.
WHAT. THE. *&%#! I start shooting but it's too late already. Because the game is so "realistic" I'm already dead by the time I see the robot thing. The robot must have gotten a headshot or two on me. Not too hard considering it was DIRECTLY above me when it opened fire.![]()
What freakin' BS is this?! I ask you guys here that are BF series veterans. Was or is this a hack? Even worse, is this cartoon nonsense really part of this game? By that I mean please tell me that this remote controlled toy is not part of the equipment that Scooter is talking about. Let's just say I am NOT prepared to spend dozens of hours on the Metro map just so I can get a radio controlled toy so I can presumably sit safely back at my spawn point and shoot people from above.
Man, do I EVER miss fun multi player games like Wolfenstein ET that reset everyone back to square one as soon as they logged off.
^^ the MAV is an unlock, but there was probably someone riding it if he was shooting at you. the MAV doesn't have guns. Supposedly the ability to ride on top of it will be removed in the next patch since its an exploit. With regards to the "realism", surely you've heard of UAV's before?
As far as unlocks go, quite a few of the most useful guns come early, so I don't really see what the problem is. All you need to do is invest enough time to become passable skill-wise and you'll have the unlocks. Don't pretend its completely different from something like UT2k4 or CS, because ultimately, just investing "as little time" as you want isn't going to make you good enough to compete with the people who play all the time, unlocks or no unlocks. It was true then, and its still true now. IMO the unlocks make the biggest difference for players of marginal skill who spend a lot of time with the game, but better skilled players will always rise to the top.
All you need to unlock is the Phekeneg, and the holo sight, foregrip and extended mag for said gun, and you, my boy, will be a killer elite( or at least an elite suppression master). Just keep looking behind you on occasion or I will stick ya with my butterknife.![]()

Ya.. MAV riding is as assnine as MAV kills IMHO. But only one of them is even being considered for a patch. And don't even get me started on the "never miss" mortars and burn your retina at 1k yard flashlights.![]()
In all fairness.. hogwash. No one I know or play with uses the early weapons once they have unlocked the later guns unless they are goofing/bored. I've been playing FPS shooters for some time.. ok a long time. And the tactics have not changed much at all since I was chasing people around in "Outlaws" on a LAN. So once you are proficient at using cover.. flanking techniques and aimed burst fire it comes down to equipment plain and simple. Well.. unless you are playing CS in which case spray and pray gets headshots galore due to hitboxes above the shoulders being the size of crates.. but I digress.

The "most useful" guns don't come early. And the guns that are truly the "most useful" only become "useful" once you've unlocked all the accessories. Oh.. and then there is the whole "you won't know if the gun is really useful or to your liking until you have all the unlocks for it" angle. Good thing you'll never invest a lot of time fully unlocking a weapon you ultimately decide does not work well for you. Oh wait.. yes you will. Repeatedly. So you end up sinking a tonne of time with each weapon... many you'll never use again. Match up a top 1% player with no unlocks against a top 1% player with every weapon available to him and it's a decidedly one sided affair. FPS games are becoming MMO's plain and simple. Grind out the better gear or get used to getting schooled by everyone who has more time to burn than you.
