Agreed. I shouldn't get penalized because my computer can run the game on the highest settings and I choose to do so. I turn the shadows and stuff off in BF2 for the sole reason that everyone else does. It looks great with them on, but it puts you at a disadvantage.

Nah dude,everyone speaking english sucks.Think of it this way,when tossing grenades,if the enemy also says "grenade!!!" instead of "Kumbula!!!" how do you know if its really the enemy or your teamate chucking that nade? Eh?

That's one of the best things in games and one of the reasons that playing with good audio hardware helps. I love hearing some guy trying to revive a teammate around a corner then waiting until the guy is revived and killing both of them. It's like wall hacking w/o the hacks.

Darker corners makes it harder to see the enemy if they are hiding, especialy in buildings... I used to have shadows on till i watched a video of someone playing without shadowns and I noticed how the enemy stuck out like a sore thumb. I turned mine off and will never turn it back on again.

Well I consider that an exploit,cause its not a disadvantage to have shadows on.Its an ADVANTAGE to the one with shadows off!!!Kinda like CS players that would use bright neon colored models for the enemy so they can be easy to see.Professional leagues banned those types of things.

Exactly, but the leagues cannot ban shadows because it is a graphic setting. It isn't fair to someone who's computer cannot run the game with shadows on, so therefore, it will never be banned. It's stupid, I know, but that's how it is.

It's not the Shadows setting.
It's the Lighting setting.

Yeah of course you can adjust graphics but I doubt you will be able to turn off shadows completly in DX 10.

you more than likely can. though like ghost dog pointed out it's a lighting setting, that gives the advantage.

and even if they did force shadows there's other settings that give players an advantage such as disabling foliage the the like.

people have been making their game look crappy to get a few more frags at least since quake3. that's the first time i came across the idea.

I know that its always been done sub.But still my point is that its lame.
PC games should be played in all their glory,thats what PCs are for,good graphics and much more complex and in depth gameplay.
This reminds me of a moment at work today where im trying to explain to some console/Mac geek about DX 10 and what HDR lighting is in a PC game.He asked me whats the point of you having HDR and the other players not.I simply told him cause PCs can do it period,if ya got the hardware then by all means use it.
