Yes, SP2 is good for you. Am running it since I installed W2k.
also, the 522 miniport divers from AMD, is absolute must, if you have AMD, w/W2k.
Thanks for the info on saving resources, logon info.
Can I just reformat the W98 C-drive, reinstall O/S, programs, etc.?
THEN, do W2k D-drive AFTER that.
I too new to DOS, to be able to reformat entire H/D and start from scratch.
I've been having massive trouble w/backing up system; So, it hasn't been done. Just the individual files and stuff.
Or, do I have to do both at same time?
Am not sure which is primary/active partition, but it does default to W2k.

    I use ME also.
    It doesn't like change.
So once you have the bios and drivers you want and do a clean install, it remains solid.

    Question Whats wrong with ME?

I'm really interested in why people still use 98se instead of ME. As soon as it came out I got it, and it's always been the goods.

What's it doing/not doing that turns so many people off it?

I can understand why people use W2K, but the drivers and support are better for ME than 98se. Did someone out there not like the look of ME and ever since the world has agreed with their decision and followed like sheep, or do you guys know something I don't.

IMHO I think 98SE is the most solid gaming platform. I did have my rig loaded with Win2K but because I did about 20 percent web browsing and productivity and 80 percent gaming. i noticed some gaming problems like failure to connect to servers and BSOD's with about 1/3 of my games (I have quite a bit) I said FI and just reloaded my rig with 98SE and it's a lot more solid for gaming than Win2K. Some web an apps seem slower on 98Se but my games fly like lightning. Next payday I'm getting a new vid card. I'm looking at the Radeon VE.
    Cheers

So what doesn't fly with 2000? I am getting a pretty much gaming exclusive rig (with occasional word processing and whatnot). I hear 98SE works with more games, yet 2000 is more stable, is it more stable with games than 98SE? And what is this SP2 thing?

SP2 is Service Pack 2, it's a huge collection of patches and bug fixes. The only game that I couldn't run in Win2K was Heavy Gear II. Compatibility really isn't that huge of an issue in 2K, but there are some things that just won't run. HG2 runs fine in XP though

If your wondering, "why not WinME?", check out the thread here:

I agree with alot that was said there.

    I dual-boot Win98SE and Win98SE . See www.xosl.org .

Win98SE, hands down, is the best gaming OS that exists today.

Coolness, but is there a special way to get 98SE more stable?
I was thinking 2000 so I could get stability, but I'm going for flat out gaming. Any opinions on XP?
