    Mobile Skt 754 Proc Question

Having never paid much attention to the Skt 754, have a real noob question.

BTW I've tried muddling through AMD site and even tried qoogle, but I must be soing something wrong as I haven't found the answer......

Wife currently is running a laptop with a 754 3700+ proc > what, if any, would be an option for more horses? Is the 3700+ top for that socket in mobile form?

Re: Mobile Skt 754 Proc Question

Pretty much. By the 3700+ logo, that is a DTR processor, so any s754 should work, but they didn't come much faster if at all. newEgg has no s754's for sale, so can't find out any more.

That processor should be very fast except for very heavy multi-tasking
Hard drives are very slow on most laptops, and they are usually short onmemory, a slowing combination.
Also XP has a problem that will slow harddrives to a crawl. Check Device Manager and make sure the contoller is set to DMA and what type. In suspend mode can casuse the drive to be reduced to the slowest PIO mode. Rmove the contoller and reboot should fix it.

Thanks GlasMan! Yah went thorugh egg and a few of the others just for S & Gs with the same results > even fleabay only had the 3700+ available. Replacing the HDD with a larger/faster one and raising the mem from the current 1GB to two were my next thoughts.

It is DDR, just not dual channel!! Doesn't matter that much, but the bios could get confused on timings, so set them manually.

That's why I had it in quaotes meaning it didn't do dual channel, sorry! Need to open it up and find out what Hypersonic put in for memory. It just so happens I have (don't know where it came from!) a 1 Gb stick of Corsair SODIMM value ram floating around.

    Thanks for the infput G'Man!

If they don't work together, just use the 1 gig stick!!! Forgot the mobiles usually run 333 anyway.
