    Will this increase performance?

Been running the ASUS with E6600 Dual for a year now, perfect stability @ 3.6.

Of course being a builder I have been looking into improving my rigs performance. Using the P5w DH and a new quad Intel processor I have been wondering if the performance will be improved for gaming.

I have looked at this CPU-

Also I have considered this one:

I have been out of the loop here for a while since my current rig has been steady and have again fallen back on current hardware.

I will consider overclocking of course but don't need to be to the max, too much heat is always the by product.

I have also considered keeping the same cpu and replacing my RAM with 2- 2 gigs G.skill stick -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

    Comments appreciated.

More memory won't do you any good until you move to a 64 bit OS.
For the quad to do you any good in gaming you need a game that will use all the cores. Otherwise clock speed is king.

yep, for now. come couple of years the extra cores will help big time. right now only a coupel games use bout 3 cores. amd's tri-core will be purfect at that

i saw go with the Q6600, the 6700 is not worth the extra money right now. even when u overclock it, it should hit 3.2+GHz, so u will be fine. and $gigs of memory is good, i think it would be a good investment

    Re: Will this increase performance?

I ordered a Q6600 with a guaranteed "GO" stepping. Next week I will install it and see how things compare in performance to my E6600.
    Thanks for the replies guys.
