Enable audio from new sound card?

My previous sound card was attached to my motherboard. I had to remove it to fit something else in that slot (yes, I sacrificed audio). Now I want my audio back. I just bought a new PCI sound card, but it doesnt attach to the mother board. It's just a sound card with audio jacks in it. I put it in the slot, and NOTHING. No audio. In Sounds & Audio devices NOTHING shows up, despite the fact that my sound card is in the computer.

How can I enable sound from my PCI sound card?

Your post is a little confusing. When you say your previous sound card "was attached" to your MB, do you mean built-in to the motherboard? Or was it also a PCI card?
And does your new card fit into the slot properly? By attach to you mean connect, or physically attach?
Make sure your new card is in a pci slot, and not a PCI-E slot.
Also, windows does not find new hardware when you boot up with the new card in place?

Doesn't your mobo have onboard audio ?
I asked what mobo you had sometime back but you never answered. Dell Dimension 9100 ( looking back through some of your older posts) ?
If this is so, then you should have onboard sound. Possibly you removed an optional soundcard, though I have no idea what wires you cut and why that was necessary. If it had an optional soundcard added, then the existing onboard sound audio connectors should still be on the back.... in practice I think Dell caps them off when adding a sound card option.
Have you tried enabling the sound in bios > onboard devices> integrated audio controller and using that ?
    Drivers should be sigmatel.

Re: Enable audio from new sound card?

Thanks when responding, CMB, unfortunately I am not a elite expert like yourself. Let me answer your questions and give more info...

The desktop is an 8400 dimention (good call on the 9100...that is my business computer, this is for personal use. Yes, I 'cut' the wires connecting the soundcard to the mother board, because I needed the PCI slot. I didnt know any other way to disable it. I tossed the sound card.

I then decided I want my audio back, and bought another sound card: SABRENT SBT-SP6C 5.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...2E16829130001). No audio.

I enabled the sound where you recommended in BIOS, still no audio.

However, I've noticed something interesting/encouraging that may be worth noting...

I have accessed this computer remotely (gotomypc) and enabled remote audio...i can hear the audio loud and clear via my remote computer. It plays the audio that my computer should be making. The only problem is, plugging audio speakers in the actual computer that is supposed to be playing sound, still has no audio.

Any idea why this is? I say it's encouraging b/c it shows that audio is flowing through the computer fine, it's just not output-ting from the physical sound card to attached speakers...

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

Enabling sound in the bios would be for onboard audio.
Do you see a sound device in device manager now that the bios onboard audio is enabled ? What does it say it is ?
So, as I asked earlier, does your motherboard have audio connectors on the back of it, are they capped/plugged, and have you tried connecting your speakers there ?

I don't know why you didn't see the pci audio card in your device manager when you connected it, perhaps it has a problem in a slot that may be sharing irq.

The wires that you cut...do they go to a socket on the motherboard or to the case front panel ?
