Welcome to the forums. There isn't any actual difference in the sticks themselves. It is just how the memory controller uses them.

    Ok,

Basically what i'm asking is because i have an ASUS P5GD2X mobo with DIMM slots, should i not be using DIMM moduals with chips on both sides?? also am i right to say that DIMMS are double sided chip moduals, and SIMMS are one sided??

    Thanks

Doesn't make any difference, really. The number of chips per side, or the lack of chips on one side isn't really a factor. The only worry when one wants memory to run in dual-channel mode is to make sure both sticks are of the same make and model number. Of course one should also make sure the sticks one is considering buying are compatible with the motherboard, and the best way to do that is to refer to the selection guides available on the websites of various memory module manufacturers. Memory should be purchased in pairs, not mixed with those of different make and model/part number.

The answers to those questions should be answered in the memory forum FAQ.
