Yup - gave the CD a quick spin - all seems good - but then it should be based on Gutsy!

    Nice customisation as usual!

i always give a copy of mint to all my windows customers to try out. i think it is a good distro to give people, since it comes with everything and just works. it is a great way to introduce people to linux without scaring them away. (give noobs a copy of debian and see what happens)

I find parents are normally fairly easy - most only require Firefox/Thunderbird and OpenOffice for their day to day stuff, plus solitaire of course! Mine struggle with even basic tasks so they wouldn't even notice what OS they are running.

i played with the live cd for a few minutes, but finally got around to installing it and using it for a while. great job Clem! i havnt had one hesitation, hitch, glitch or twitch. it runs absolutely perfect. i know ubuntu should run the same if setup correctly, but for some reason there is always something that isnt perfect. i have yet to find anything in mint that hasnt been perfect. it has a very smooth feel to it. anyone debating giving this a try should definitely check it out. you'll see what i mean once you use it.

Mint dual boots with any M$ OS with no problems as it uses Grub. If later you decide you don't care for Mint (or other 'nix OS) then restoring your regular M$ boot up is easy.

Boot up Vista and delete the 2 partitions (root and swap) of the 'Mint OS. This will free up space on your hd where Mint previously resided. Then follow the instructions at the M$ site:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 or "bootrec /Fixmbr." in the command prompt.

I am constantly trying out 'nix distros and restored the M$ mbr numerous times with no problems.

Mint is a 32bit 'nix OS.
