    Upgrading my rig. Advice Required

    Hi there.

I am looking to upgrade from my 32-bit Athy to an intermediate 64-bit rig.
Price is essential at the mo, so doing it on the cheap!

I have a perfectly able AGP graphics card, ATI Radeon X850 (256MB), that I'd like to keep using. So really all I was looking to purchase is Mobo/ CPU / RAM.
( maybe a new PSU if required )

I will list what I have found and am thinking of buying and maybe some of you can comment/ advise etc. as you see fit.

So, finding an AGP dual 64 Mobo is a bit hard nowadays. Kinda the only one that jumped out.

    Mobo ASRock AM2NF3-VSTA

    CPU AMD Athlon64 X2 dual 5600+

    RAM Corsair Twin 2GB DDR2 XMS2 6400C4

PSU I currently have is an ENERMAX EG465AX-VE(G)

Any opinions on this combo, or any other options that I should consider, please let me know.

    Cheers

Since you're upgrading from an Athlon XP machine, staying up with the latest and greatest is (apparently) not incredibly important. No offense intended...to some people, it's important, to others, it's not.

With that in mind, I would say go with what you have picked. If the power supply proves to not be up to the task, you can upgrade it too.

The 5000+ black is unlocked so you can easily overclock it.
It's also low power 65w and $10.00 cheaper although it doesn't come with a hs & fan.

    Oh yeah PSUs.
I just added a second HD to my Infinity rig and it's running on an Enermax 500.
That's with a 125w 6400+ black, 2x1GB RAM, 6 case fans, the giant Arctic Freezer, an overclocked ATI 3850 and a DVD burner.
I think you'll be good to go.

You're good to go. that is a good budget upgrade. NOT buying a new GPU helps you keep your costs low!

Re: Upgrading my rig. Advice Required

Hi, Thanks for the help guys.

Have upgraded and all is well and stable.

Using the stock HSF combo, but really wanting to add my Thermalright Si-97A and 92mm fan.

I have ordered an adapter for this but I can't find info on the suitability for a dual core CPU.

Can anyone tell me if this HS is good for my CPU?

    Cheers
