No luck with Crucial Ballistix Ram

Ive heard the Crucial Ballistix ram (1066mhz 5-5-5-15 2T @2.2v) was a great OCer so i picked myself up some from Zipzoomfly, bought 4x1GB sticks of the 1066mhz kind, and for the life of me i cannot get these past 1100 @ any timings, ive tried 5-5-5-15@1200mhz, upon hearing reports of this being achievable, and no boot, ok so i back down to 1150 same timings, still no boot, ok so i tried 6-5-5-15@ the same timings and still wont boot @ 1066mhz it runs fine but seeing as i cant OC them i try to reduce the Timings to 4-4-4-12 2T@1066mhz but i get BSOD in Vista :/
The obvious choice would be to increase the timings.. ill try that but upon hearing so many people getting this to 1200+ at 5-5-5-15 2T timings i find frustrating that mine cant seem to do anything.
    Any ideas?
Tip:look at my Sig for information about my setup.

Give all your OC specs, maybe some one can spot something

4 sticks usually put a lot of strain on the northbridge and cause poor performance due to that. try uping the nb voltage a tad. and try increasing the voltage on the ram to 2.4 and then give it a run..

Re: No luck with Crucial Ballistix Ram

Most Ballistix use Micron D9GMH, and most ram based on these chips will do just under DDR1200 with 5-5-5-15-T2 @ 2.2v, or just under DDR1000 4-4-4-12-T2 with 2.2v. Only exceptionally binned memories, or very lucky sticks will do DDR2 1200+ stable, or 1066 with 4-4-4-x timings.

Also, these things have virtually no voltage head room, unless some very serious cooling is used. If the ram is warmer than your skin while being stressed (my ballistix got scortching hot with average cooling), more than 2.25v will probably kill them in short order (~3 months of heavy use).

2.4v will almost certainly get you to where you are trying to go, but that kind of voltage will permanently damage the memory in hours without dedicated active cooling for the modules.

After 3 months of using 2.3 to 2.35v on my Ballistix, one stick no longer POSTS at all while the second stick needs at least 2v to even boot at DDR2 800 with 5-5-5-18-T2 timings. No setting/voltage is fully stable on this one any more and soon it will be as dead as it's brother. New ram gets here today though.

Re: No luck with Crucial Ballistix Ram

Yea im able to do 900Mhz@4-4-4-12 2T timings no problem but i guess i wasnt lucky with the ram

And yea my Nbridge is Overvolted to 1.4v memory is at recommend settings 2.2v

Update: tried a couple of other things still no go at anything passed 1100, tried 5-5-5-18@2.25v 1200Mhz, 6-6-6-18@1200/1150@2.25 nothing,

However i was able to finally get 1066mhz stable @ 4-4-4-12 with 2.25v so ill call it a success story and leave it at that; its plenty fast and good timings too.

1066 @ 4-4-4-12 with 2.25v is not bad at all.

Well it didn't seem to last still got a BSOD, even at that. im stuck and frustrated, supposedly good overclocking ram and i cant even get anywhere with these, the best i can do is 3-3-3-5 2T timing @800mhz which is impressive but i liked to see higher Mhz...

Its good ram dont get me wrong i love it, just i expected more out of it.

Futher update, i've taken quite a liking to this ram, though it still wont let me hit 1200+ Mhz i find the timings are excellent!

at 2.3V im able to do 1066Mhz 4-3-3-9 2T Insane!

Re: No luck with Crucial Ballistix Ram

somewhat, i got an Antec 900 gaming case with 2 120mm fans in the front taking in air, a 120mm fan on the side blowing air on the gpu and RAM and a top 220mm fan taking out hot air from the CPU, so maybe not "active" cooling but i have good air flow, 2.3V is alot i know but i think it should be able to handle it just fine if not can always RMA it

I predict an RMA in 3-6 months, depending on how often you stress the memory.
