Creative ways to destroy computer hardware?

Say you had some PC hardware...that you wanted to take out some frustration on...

How would you go about doing it in the most creative, yet legal, fashion? Would you use dry ice to freeze it then try to shatter it? Burn it? Blow it up with a 1/4 stick of dynamite?

Let's just say I have a project... So let me hear it!

An insteresting way to fry a mobo:

place a jumper on the positive/negative leads on the chassis fan port, and then turn on the mobo, and you'll see flames, for a bit, and then the mobo will die.

(Using WOL, you could make it an interesting way to remotly destroy a PC)

Hmm, I have shot hard drives to pieces, burnouts on mobo's, thrown cases from moving vehicle, connected mains power to cards...

Was all good fun at the time and no innocent creatures were harmed :-)

    Tell us more Ryan.

Pour some thermite on a PC tower (filled with gasoline of course) and watch the fire works.

Call the local bombsquad, see if they need a practice detonation, and use all the explosives they'll allow

Or find something that's fully automatic and just let fly 'till you can't see anything of the component anymore. That has the added benefit of being an excellent way to vent frustration

www.hackaday.com - plenty of suggestions on that site (eg: convert a dead HDD to a bench grinder)

    Monitors - aquarium
Mobos and cards - cut them up and use for Christmas tree ornaments

    etc, etc

A stump, or trunk segment as anvil and various implements such as a large heavy machete, a 30lb sledge, a 4-foot steel spike thing (no clue what it's called, all I know is my parents have one), and a mattock.

Still can't find any workable drivers for those 9600 GT's can you?

As for destroying pc hardware, I'd go with the slow, methodical approach. Let's say I had a mobo that was at the end of it's life. I'd power it up, boot it into Windows, then take an Exacto knife to it while wearing a thick rubber glove. I'd start going over it's traces, cutting one here or there, all the while keeping an eye on the monitor, watching to see just how much torture it can take before completely conking out.

Of course you could always just solder various things together on it that should never be soldered together, say run a line from a capacitor to the onboard LAN. Maybe even just wrap the whole thing really tight in tinfoil.

    hi,
I've always wanted to use a hydraulic wood splitter to cut a PC in half. One could pull the lever just ever so lightly & cause a slow splintering death.

Just wire up a A/C cord onto a 20pin or 24pin ATX connector. Plug the sucker in. Make sure you have ample distance and a non-volatile switch so as not to kill yourself in the process....

    These are all interesting ideas...

Also curious if you guys know: what type of drill bit goes through a silicon die best without cracking it?
