My VNF3-250 is still going strong!

Rock stable and still performing like a champ with A65 Venice @ 2.7ghz, w/ 1gig DDR550 Gskill memory.

I'm gonna be getting a HD 3850 AGP videocard as soon as they come out!

    Anyone still on a VNF3-250?

Re: My VNF3-250 is still going strong!

I tested alot my games over the past 3days... the card has done very well in all them except Crysis.
Crysis was smooth but the fps was lower than I expected.
I'm running the game at 1280x1024 with medium settings except shader set to high and I'm using a custom shader config file that enables dx10 effects in dx9

I avg 25fps give or take and worst case low teens with some high 30fps and low 40fps in areas.
I think Crysis could be patched to run better and AMD/ATi could do better with the drivers.

Oh and one more thing.. I'm stuck using the drivers from Sapphire's site because the one's from AMD/ATi site wont install for me.
I just tried the 8.3 Cats.

    except shader set to high
The card (and the rest of the ATI cards) is weak in this area.

Re: My VNF3-250 is still going strong!

Well with the card broke in and seen as stable I started off overclocking my 3850 AGP with ATi's auto-tune in CCC.
    This was very limiting...
The newest Rivatuner now supports my 3850 so dug in and got this little beast overclocked on the core to 825mhz and the memory at 1000mhz and 3DMark06 stable but not Crysis stable.
This is with the stock cooler mind you.

I settled for a 775mhz core/950mhz memory and its stable in all games so far.
Does run alittle warmer than I would like at idle but underload it only hits 75-80c so I'm ok.

With the extra o/c I got a 6742 3DMark06 score which seems to show my CPU is really a bottleneck to this card maybe?

And as for Crysis... with the new o/c I didnt gain much but the game play is pretty smooth.

This at 1280x1024 medium settings with shader on high with custom config shader that enables DX10 effects in DX9.

    Long live AGP!!!

So is mine, but 256mb of available ram just isn't enough these days and DDR3200 is just too expensive to add on. Never had a moments trouble with it running BOINC SETI at home, but never played any games. Transition from IDE to SATA in preparation for a new Gigabyte board has generated some issues that I'll take to another thread. No regrets buying Chaintech.
