Re: The Democrat Party Race To November

From what I understand, the superdelegate system is deliberately designed to limit the power that rank and file Democrats have in deciding the candidate.

The party bosses came up with this scheme after George McGovern was stuffed by Nixon in '72. The powers that be figured they knew best when it came to picking a viable candidate & wanted to stack the deck in their favour. It was introduced in 1982, but hasn't really figured until now.

Superdelegates are basically party apparatchiks or elected officials. Bill Clinton is a superdelegate. So's Al Gore and Jimmy Carter actually.

American elections are cool. You have every system under the sun, all at once.

    That's it in a nutshell...

Rumor has it that to reinforce her campaign of change, Hillary has decided to make Helen Thomas her press secretary.

Add another delegate for Obama in Maine

    by kos

Sun Feb 10, 2008 at 05:30:37 PM PST

So we know that with 90 percent reporting, the delegate count for Maine's 24 delegates look like this:
    Obama 15
    Clinton 9

    But don't forget this:
John Knutson, the chairman of the Maine Democratic Party, said Thursday he will support the candidate who wins the majority of the vote in Maine.
"For all intents and purposes, Maine now has 25 delegates up for grabs since I will be embracing the candidate who wins Maine's caucuses," Knutson, one of the 10 super-delegates, said in a statement.
"I see this as a way to further empower Democrats across the state of Maine and make the results of our caucus more influential. It is clear that this presidential campaign will come down to a race for delegates, and I believe that by pledging to support the winner of Maine's caucuses, I will help to increase Maine's importance in the nomination process," Knutson said.
So make that 16 delegates for Obama today.

Screw CNN. IMO Obama is now the frontrunner[and he gets hosed by 3 delegates in this tally from Maine]

I really think they should leave the superdelegates out. They aren't "pledged" and most superdelegates haven't decided yet.

I hope so, becuase I don't have much faith in McCain, so I really think that the victor here will like be our next president.

As another election draws near; the G.O.P. are yet again filled with a stupid confidence that the they will win the White House. What they don't realize about people like Trump, Carson, and Cruz is that their rhetoric only resonates within an echo chamber, but not the American people. They live in an illusion of falsehood and distorted truth and only seek information and opinions that confirm these beliefs and instantly reject anything that contradicts them because only their opinions matter. Their notion of freedom is freedom for themselves and those alike to them, but not the rest of the country which has changed.
These are the reasons why the G.O.P is set to lose in 2016. And when that happens, rest assured that they will have myriad of conspiracy theories blaming everyone and everything from the liberal media, to Oprah, to welfare moms, and pretty much everyone but their own disgusting selves.

I agree. And its just wrong to include them now.
I imagine each news site can poll them and come up with different counts.

My bitch is every news site should have the same #'s.

The thread title is a pejorative term used by far right pundits like limbaugh and hannity, to put democrats in a negative light. It really isn't in the nature of a neutral thread if that's what you intended it to be. I don't know if you're aware of it, but I'm just saying as an FYI. The Democrat Party doesn't exist in The United States. Not complaining, just saying in case you didn't mean to project a negative connotation on neutral discussion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democrat_Party_(phrase)
