I think the dock would be a better solution, both for the noise and the heat problems you are experiencing with your current set up, and surely just pushing a button to turn it on or off wouldn't/couldn't be too much of an inconvenience! I guess I'm still not understanding why you want the automatic start up and shut down.

Well, the thing is that I don't swap drives that often, I only got a 320GB one and 500GB one full of HD video content. Since noise is an issue with my setup, I like to hide the drives below the table in the back, so it's just a little annoying to have to reach there every time I turn off the HTPC, which is often, since it's not my main PC.

Anyway, a switch makes it better than having to unplug the thing like I used to have to do with the adapter's own power supply, maybe I could get used to it and find a way to isolate noise so I can keep it closer. Maybe I'll just invest in quieter, low-RPM drives for movies. I'm getting this thing anyway, I don't need eSATA. I might want to get the USB hub one, but I don't know how much of a performance loss could happen there.

I never win anything, so I just went out and bought one... hahahaha.

Wait... come to think of it, I did win a pumpkin when I was in grade 1, but it was hellish carrying the beast home for Halloween.

Was looking around and I found exactly what I was looking for. You can find them on Amazon too. It would be a great companion to the Blacx, and to power off stuff like your speakers as well. I was looking for a USB-controlled one, but these are so much better and simpler!

Just wanted to let you know how it's going. I just now got a chance to use it as a drive was corrupted in my kids machine due to overheating. We took it out and popped it in the BlackX and attached it to my computer. Luckily it was recognized and we got everything off the drive that he wanted. The BlackX was instantly recognized once the power button was pushed. It's a nifty little device.

The eSATA of the Vantec unit is what interested me. Did you see it at Best Buy??
