    Gas prices

I have been looking for a chart like this comparing gasoline prices in the US with Europe and finally had a chance to look for one. Europe has gone up about $4/gallon in the last four years versus $2/gallon in the US over four years.

According to these charts, the price of gas looks like it's gone up more in the US. 166% here vs. 147% there in the UK. The Netherlands has kept pace.

    I'll give you my prediction:

    U.S
    2008 - $4.10 avg. per gallon (peak)
    2009 - $4.50 avg. per gallon (peak)
    2010 - $5.00+ avg. per gallon (peak)

You heard it here first. If I suddenly disappear off the planet, remember what you read!

    Re: Gas prices

As good a prediction as any.^^ Its a tough call. Thread at TLR on oil and my comments are similar.

The things that will change [in a positive way] the oil market:

    Decreased demand
    Increased supply
Perceived "stability" in the major oil producing nations*
Some incentive for domestic oil extraction that doesnt
    reflect "global" pricing

*I believe thats a major factor/coupled with a falling dollar/relative to other currencies.

I also believe were close to the "magic point" where gas prices force a natural self rationing.

The best way Ive found to understand the supply/demand deal with oil
is to think in different terms. Simplify the discussion.

Think of OPEC as drug dealers.
Now think of things that might force OPEC to
    reduce its prices.
And were right back to what I said above.
    decreased demand
    increased supply
    less risk
    change in law

    Re: Gas prices

What most of the Euro countries have done is accelerate
decreased demand via punishment taxes on gasoline.
Trouble is? It becomes a revenue source rather than an valid economic tool.

In the end? The Euro countries are paying at least if not more that we pay
at the pump. And I understand the macro consumption arguement.
It seems to me the model is increased gasoline taxes simply fund "other stuff"

My arguement there is it hurts an "average joe" to an extreme.

Amazing huh? Here weve heard for years he is a dumbell and he manages this?

    Silly notion.

Lets look at legislation first. Inspired by the economic geniuses that
concluded ehtanol mix was a smart idea. Sheer genius.
May as well have created another drug that drives prices up.

"Give me a big enough lever, and I can move the world." War and instability in the middle east? The effect of China's now massive oil consumption at the same time? How bright do you have to be to see that?

As another election draws near; the G.O.P. are yet again filled with a stupid confidence that the they will win the White House. What they don't realize about people like Trump, Carson, and Cruz is that their rhetoric only resonates within an echo chamber, but not the American people. They live in an illusion of falsehood and distorted truth and only seek information and opinions that confirm these beliefs and instantly reject anything that contradicts them because only their opinions matter. Their notion of freedom is freedom for themselves and those alike to them, but not the rest of the country which has changed.
These are the reasons why the G.O.P is set to lose in 2016. And when that happens, rest assured that they will have myriad of conspiracy theories blaming everyone and everything from the liberal media, to Oprah, to welfare moms, and pretty much everyone but their own disgusting selves.

the price of fuel in europe is CHEAPER than it is in the US, it is the taxes over there that make it so expensive
