    My 3dmark score sucks!

Ok just built the new system again

    The old / The new

    MB:chaintech VNF4 ultra / Biostar520-a2 and now the Asus m2n-e-sli

    Memny ddr400 at 2x512 / G-skill ddr2 800 at 2x2gig

    cpu:athlon3000 at 1.8ghz / Athlon x2 at 2.6ghz

    hd:wd 80gig caviar / wd raptor 74gig

stock air cool / stock air cool

    vid:g7900/256mg / same

    3dmark03: OC to 2.3ghz / stock settings
    score 16513 / 17734

    o.s.: xp32bit / XP64bit

Now when I compared to similar systems they all smoke me by double, even when I had the Biostar OC'ed I only got upto 19k 3dmark03 score. I also tested new rig with 3dmark06 only got 5443, while everyone else had over 10k scores . I did noticed that everyone else used xp32 bit, they all had 2 gig memory and older versions of video drivers. What could be keeping me down?

Did you ever consider that people breaking 10k are in all likelihood running 2 cards in sli?

Yeah I was wondering that 3dmark website doesn't tell you if they are running two cards or not. Only if the person mentions it in his description.

Don't bother with 2003, use the 05 or 06 versions which are SLI/crossfire aware and are well beyond dx7.
With 05 (and I assume 06) you can search the data base for comparable systems, clock speeds, cpu, gpu dual cards. All the data is detected by modern 3dMarks and is supplied to the data base when you upload your results.

I haven't found that the search feature works correctly if I select 'Multiple graphics cards' in the Cooperative graphics cards field. Maybe you could shed some light on how this works?

I was just expecting more out of my upgrade but I really should be satisfied with it as BF2 works flawlessly now with almost all high settings and in general use of the pc it runs very smooth now. But speed wise I just haven't seen an improvement that makes me say wow that was worth it!

05 and 06 scores are measured mostly by the GPU so unless you've upgrade your vid card don't expect your 05 and 06 scores to go up much.

Zip, don't feel too bad. My 3DMk06 score sucks too but it seems to be due to my weak single core Opty 144.

    My system: Biostar TForce 6100-939, Opty144 @ 244 X 9, 2 GB PC3200 (1 GB X 2), XFX 9600GT standard (not overclocked), Windows XP Home.

    3DMk2006: 6,100
    3DMk2003: 28,184
    3DMk2001: 29,829

The 9600GT replaced an old 7600GT in the same system with the following scores:

    3DMk2006: ~3,300
    3DMk2003: ~13,300
    3DMk2001: ~24,100

Those donít look bad to me at least not the 03 and 06 scores that doubled.

    Ratbx:

    True, those scores did double.

As mentioned by others, Zipsnipe should see a higher score if he uprgrades his video card.

But my aging Skt 939 system doesn't even meet the minimum 3DMark06 system recommendations, i.e., 2.5 Ghz (single core CPU) or 2.0 ghz (dual core CPU). My next upgrade will be a major one since I don't think it's worth upgrading to a $150 dual core Skt 939 Opteron all things considered. I bought the XFX 9600GT for $129 at Newegg (after HardOCP promo & MIR) and thought it was a pretty good upgrade for the price. I don't feel comfortable overclocking the CPU although I did get it to run at 2.7 ghz in my Asrock 939Dual SATA (RIP about year ago), but I don't think it would make a big difference in performance anyway. BTW, what kind of 3DMk2006 score do you get with your Bstar 6100-939 system?
