budget build under $500 please help

im going to work this summer and i want to build a new pc
but since its only the summer i wont have a lot of dough
but i do already have

monitor (viewsonic 17'w)
seagate 160gb harddrive (with those 2x10 plugs called IDD or somthing..)
dvd drive
os windows xp

any help will be apreciated

Will this build be for gaming, or for media?

Also will u be overclocking or not?

mostly to upgrade somegaming like battlefield or COD4
but nothing too demanding
and some conveting DVD movies to be able to play on
my zune 80gb or samsung yp p2 (which ever one i decide to get)
but i dont thing anything too demanding

Go with my suggested system but get the 8800GT or GTS. Just be sure to get a 500W system as the video card will require that.

whats the difference between 1MB of cache and 2MB of cache
becouse i was looking at the e2200 and the e4500 and that the only difference they have

apart from it having twice as much cache

the ram internally in the cpu is faster than external ram and basically the more it has of it the better

i changed my mind on the motherboard i think this one will have better expandability in case i want a better cpu or faster ram and is one of a few out there with firewire

Yes and no, depending on the application. Anandtech said that the 2mb helped for applications and video/photo editing. For games it did not make much difference.

Also, a 3Ghz on e2200 vs 3ghz e4500 is better for e4500 because of the 2mb cache, for the above case.

U're fine with either. I'd personally spend an extra $40 to ensure that there are no bottlenecks with 1mb cache.

the ASUS VM board has onboard video. U're wasting your money! Get a DS3R since that one performs better.
