    K8N Neo2 Platinum Upgrade

I built my present PC 3years ago and am looking to upgrade my present PC or build a new one.
    K8N Neo2 Platinum Motherboard
    400W Power supply
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    PowerColor 9550 256MB Graphics Board
    4xCorsair 512MB DDR400 Ram
    1x WD1600AAJS SATA hard drive
    1x Samsung SP1213N Hard Drive
    1x Viewsonic VA1913wb Monitor 1440x900 resolution
    1x EIZO F56 Monitor
    Windows XP Pro SP2

I have been very pleased with the K8N Neo2 and wonder if I could usefully upgrade based on this motherboard. My main use is Flight simulator 2004 and FSX. My present spec is not really good enough for FSX.

I think a new video card would help a lot. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

a new high end vga card ...take your pick

and a new descent psu will not hurt ....corsair 650watter with single 12v rail

and can be used again in a newer build

chances are a better vga card will stress out any 3 year old 400 watt psu

Does that motherboard support socket 939 dual core cpu's? If so you may try picking one up off ebay. My motherboard is 3 years old and with a dual core upgrade, new power supply, 2 gigs of memory, and an 8800GT it plays newer games including Crysis (all setting on high at 1440 x 900 res) great!

I had that motherboard back in 2005. It was probably the best AGP platform for an A64 system.

Although the board supports dual-core 939 CPUs, I'd recommend a full upgrade (i7 920 + 4870X2) if playing FSX is what you're after. One of my friends is also a FSX fan and playing it at 1280x1024 max detail with his A64X2 5000+ and GTX260 216. The framerates still drop to about 10fps sometimes, so buying an A64X2 and 3850 (best AGP card) won't give you very good expriences in that game.
