You said it was your "primary" computer, so if you had a "secondary, you can download SDFix, and put it on a flash drive or cd or something, and then transfer it to the infected one to run it. You could also (probably) do this on the primary computer with a live linux cd or Bart PE cd, nice to have one of those around for stuff like this.

Well I downloaded a copoy of AV that had an update dated 7/9 ,and it picked up 4 trojans and trojan related things .after scanning and deleting those, so far, the pc seems like its old self. Windows one picked up something none of the others did. and we got rid of that too. last 2 scans showed no problewms so MAYBE, I won't have the pita to go thru.

BD51, so you're able to get on line? Everytime I try I get the "software download" in progress which I teminate by closing the internet link.

Ya got thinking about the update BD51 so.................

Okay when I got home just for S & Gs I fired up the system and let it boot "normally". Came up with the same BS and the little icon down near the time shows network disconnected, but said what the ____ and hit the AVG shortcut to do an update. Sure enough it did and when I started the scan 7 Trojan files popped up. Well let it finish the scan and see what happens.

On a side note when the virus, etc is tossed into the "vault" how would one get rid of that?

    And the band played on............

After the scan was completed a supposed 19 trojans were found and were "healed or sent to the vault". Rebooted as directed and.............

    Same old snit!

Rrebooted into safe mode and have started the AVG command line scanner (this the same as before?) and so far two more trojans supposedly found.

'Nother NOOB question... this scan shows a lot of "locked" files as not tested, is this "normal"?

I cleaned mine enough to get my pictures copied to a disc ,and get my coa with keyfinder, and then I just reformatted. I wouldn't trust a drive, even if you did get most of it, because you never know what's on there, that you didn't get, such as a keylogger that phones home after a month, and downloads all your info. It's the best way to be sure you get everything.

www.magicaljellybean.com and download a copy of keyfinder. save it to my documents. when you ope n it, it will give you the coa of the copy of XP you are currently running. Makes it nice when that stupid little piece of tape is gone. I put a copy on all my rigs. Works for Vista now too.

Well I got hit by this last night, Hey who knew that 90% of the Martha Stewart Porn sites were infected?

Anyway it was a complete HDD wipe and re install. This is a nasty piece of code, and when I saw all the people here simply wiping their drives down that’s when I decided to do the same. I figure if the people here can’t beat it with confidence then I had no chance.

I had all the same issues and symptoms that the old JH was experiencing and MAN that thing hit me fast.

I beat it about 5 times a day on average. (That's how many customers are bringing in machines with this problem daily). I haven't found it necessary to wipe a machine yet.

Edit: What I could really use is some definitive information on where/how each of you acquired this nasty piece of software.

Web site got me. Was browsing and hit a link to a smoking hot babe. One click on the babe and (WHAM) I knew I had screwed up. I got an immediate message that AVG was shutting down., and it got bad FAST.

I shouldn’t be browsing so late I stop thinking with the head on my shoulders sometimes

Couldn’t tell you what site it was as I was just following some links from a WoW web site (Not an official Site BTW) when I came across this one.

The up side was I needed a fresh install anyway.

And yes I figure it’s beatable with some effort but you know it’s one of those things that would make me feel that I might have missed something that could come back and bite me later.

Again I’ve needed to update drivers and clean up the system for some time. Been running on this install for well over a year and as we all know, windows has a habit of getting flakey over time.

My main concern is the vector itself more so than the actual site. I want to be able to tell the customer the method of contraction, if they are unaware. I.E, clicking on something, etc.

I know XP Antivirus 2008 is doing the rounds, but I'd like to stress again that Antivirus XP 2008 is a different program. All those who have been infected, are you sure of which one you were infected by?

In any case, tomorrow I will rewrite and post that automated fix I made for XP Antivirus 2008.
