    Motherboard Powers Up For A Few Seconds Then It Quits

    My MB will begin to power up for about 3 4 seconds and it then quits.
    Heres what I have tried:
    Ive verified the power supply works by jumpering the green wire to a black wire which powers the power supply fan
    Ive disconnected all peripherals except for one case fan
    Ive verified the 4 prong ping near the CPU is connected
    Ive pulled the MB out of the case and set it on cardboard to ensure there are no shorts
    Ive cleared the CMOS
    Ive tried to power up the MB by installing one stick of mem and/or with the video card

    What else could I try to find the problem?
    The MB is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6.

    Thank you

    The psu could turn fans all day even if it was popped.

    I would verify PSU by either trying that PSU in another box, or borrowing a known functioning one into your new build.

    Hi Uncle Bob – to answer your questions:

    PSU = Raidmax RX 500S – 500 Watts
    CPU = Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66GHz, 1333 FSB)
    Video Card = GeForce 8600 GT
    (which will be swapped out for 2 Sapphire HD 2600XT in crossfire mode)

    Apparently there’s another post just below mine from “ewhite” and he/she has the same MB with a problem closely resembling mine. I’ll certainly do a search on this forum and others of this MB.

    Question for user “Mpulliam”

    I could test this PSU in another computer (would rather not) but would it be easier to test each connector with a volt meter?

    Thank you all for your help.

    Jimmy

    Check each lead on a molex connector and see what you get.

    Is the green light on the front panel lighting up?

    I've had an Intel Northbridge fail on me after running at high temperatures, and the mobo would boot up, but the power light wouldn't come on. After a few seconds, it would power down.

    If you have aftermarket cooling connected, the system will shut down if you don't have a 4-pin fan on the CPU fan header. This 'feature' has to be manually disabled.

    Lastly, do you get the mobo good beep before it shuts down?

    I would first try a clean boot after wiping the CMOS clean or booting from the backup BIOS (Gigabyte boards still have Dual BIOS, right?).

    It could just be the power supply. I've not heard much about Raidmax, and what I've heard isn't so great. No experience with them myself, but your rig doesn't look particularly power-hungry.
