How to fix the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable?

I just restarted my computer and i enable SMART in the bios after clearing the BIOS then i go into windows and my D: drive backup is not accessible. What should i do to fix the hard drive? I've tried partition magic and GetDataBack... it'll allow me to see the files but not Recover and repair the it wants me to extract files to backup. I'm think it's MFT is something? chkdsk doesn't work either.

Testdisk can help in some cases.

I recommend leaving SMART disabled in the BIOS. Use the drive manufacturer's diagnostics to thoroughly test the drive.

Well i've come to believe the MFT is corrupt. So i downloaded TestDisk and i'm trying the mft repair function. Is there anything i should know to try and properly repair the MFT on my hard drive?
