ASrock dual core 6 minute boot up

    Hi,
About a year ago I upgraded my tower to a core2 system.
    I got as follows: -

    ASRock Conroe XFire ESATA2 S775 bundle Intel Core2 6300 @1.86GHz.
    2Gb DDR ram
Maxtor IDE HDD, DVD-Rom (both on the IDE cable)
2 additonal HDD's connected via a PCI RAID card.
ATI Graphics card in the PCI-E slot
    LinkSys Wireless card.

The problem is it takes up to 6 minutes to boot up Win XP pro and is slugish thereafter. It has done this from fresh installation.

    I have tried the following : -

Removed all the cards and sencondary HDD's (only leaving the Primary HDD solo on the IDE cable with jumpers to suit) this did nothing to improve the speed.

    Here is my boot log

I formated and reinstalled when I upgraded the PC from the old Athlon parts. I have wiped twice since trying to sort this problem out.

Re: ASrock dual core 6 minute boot up

There are no flagged devices in the device managed. The drivers listed are for the on-board sound and other motherboard hardware (usb's etc) which is strange as I have checked and windows is using these drivers once booted. The PC works ok when full up and running but has the speed of a old P2 machine.

You have set the BIO to load defaults?

It sure sounds like its trying to boot from a floppy or a cd as well, or is finding some sort of left over OS and trying to force it to load.

EDIT: Your Maxtor is set to Master, and your optical is Slave? Or vice versa?

The maxtor is set to cable select as is the DVD drive on the same cable. I have tried it with the DVD removed and jumpers set to master and no difference. I went through the bios again last night and they are all set to default settings. The drive was formated and aclean install of XP was installed (it was XP prior to formating on the old system)

Actually it seems to me that the Hd never got properly cleaned off. You need to DL the Maxtor Hd Diag and Utilities and completely wipe the drive by deleteing the existing partition and writing zero's to the the whole drive, and the drive is sound and clean of all garbage, your BIOS is set to defaults, that a basic reload should solve your problems.

Re: ASrock dual core 6 minute boot up

I swapped out the maxtor for a spare HDD I had. Deleted and re created the partition, formated it and reinstalled XP. Also installed the raid car and graphics car as well. Also installed zone alarm and AVG. Boot time just under 5 minutes!

    Any else I could try?
