Still the best all round computer forum on the net, IMO.

Overclocking video cards is about all thats left anymore. Gone are the fun days of pencil modding the xp. Turning Bartons into MP's. God I do miss that. I guess what I mean is that cpu overclocking is too easy anymore.

As others have said, it's really too easy. Locked buses take the mystery out of it. Once you hit the CPU ceiling, that's it. It doesn't help that Intel's product is way faster right now too.

Yeah it was more fun back when there was more of a taboo about things, when manufacturers didn't support it at all. Back in the day it was a thrill to squeeze a little more out of your hardware when you had to work to accomplish it, today its pretty much expected. Hell look at the bios options we have today, you don't even have to get your hands dirty with jumpers.

I still find it fun to tinker but the big thrill just isn't the same, I just set it and forget it nowadays.

.........and hair thin pieces of wire around the pins (thats why I wear spectacles nowadays) .

Nowadays I have a 3700+ at a comfy 2.5GHz, does what I need, I have been to 2.7+ but little extra gain. Arctic freezer air cooling keeps it 10C above ambient with this small OC.

Most of the hardcore overclockers are on other forums that focus on it more.

Are the gain smaller or larger with multi cores?

Depends on the applications used. For what I use its much better to oc a quad. Gamers on the other hand get plenty from a nice dual core.

A core2 duo is going to have a higher overclock than a core2 quad if that's what you're asking. Unless you meant something else?
